 Munculnya ikan tuing-tuing

Saat musim timur dimulai, udara Laut Mandar dipenuhi burung-burung yang terbang berkelompok.
Burung ini unik karena sisiknya menyerupai ikan. Putra raja kemudian memberi nama burung itu Tuing-
tuing, atau ikan terbang di Indonesia. Sejak saat itu, nyanyian ikan menjadi perayaan kerajaan. Ikan ini
masih menjadi hidangan populer di wilayah Mandar. Bahkan menjadi sumber pendapatan masyarakat
Sulawesi Barat. Bahkan saat berkunjung ke Kabupaten Majene pada tahun Sulawesi Barat (Sulbar),
khususnya di wilayah Somba.

Ikan tuing-tuing itu ditangkap nelayan setempat. Sebagian besar ikan tersebut hanya dipasarkan secara
lokal, termasuk untuk memenuhi permintaan warung-warung yang tersebar di seluruh desa.

 Cara membakar atau mengasap ikan tuing- tuing

Ikan tuing-tuing ini konon unik dan enak. Ikan terbang terpilih dibersihkan, dimasukkan ke dalam
air garam dan diletakkan di dahan kering. Tidak ada keraguan bahwa tidak ada api di kulit ikan.
Disebut tuing-tuing 'asap' karena daging ikan terbang dimasak dengan asap.Pertanda bahwa ikan
sudah matang adalah ketika warna kulit menggelap dan daging ikan sudah mulai mengeras. Tidak
memerlukan waktu yterlalu lama. Semakin banyak asap yang mengepul, semakin cepat matangnya.
Para pemilik warung juga kerap kali memanasi ikan agar tuing-tuingnya enak disantap.

Nah, cara ‘ngasap’ Hal ini sepertinya mempengaruhi rasanya.cara asap ini enak. Rasanya lebih
enak daripada ikan bakar atau goreng. Enak sekali, disantap dengan sambal lada dan ubi. Seperti
yang telah disebutkan, orang juga memesan telur ikan terbang beserta dagingnya karena selain
kaya akan protein dan vitamin, telur ikan terbang ini juga sangat enak dan gurih.
Tempat yang menyediakan tuing-tuing ini gampang di temukan di daerah majene. Kita perlu melewati
jalur trans bagian barat Majene, Sulawesi Barat. Atau melipir ke Desa Somba, Kecamatan Sendana,
Kabupaten Majene. Apa bila kita mau menuju ke sana , membutuhkan waktu sekitar 3 jam dari Mamuju,
ibukota Sulawesi Barat.

Harga ikan tuing-tuing 15 biji bisa mnecapai harga 15.000, dan haru di perhatikan apakah ikannya masih
baru dan menikmati ikan tuing-tuing asap di daerah Majene. Menurut warga daerah majene, ikan tuing-
tuing hanya ada ketika musim angin timur.
