CREATIVE ACTIVITY PLAN: PLAYDOUGH MODELING

Group composition ages: Preschoolers generally between 3 to 6


Group size : depends on the number of kids but mostly 2 children each group.

Let children squish, sculpt and mold play dough cause they’ll surely love it.
Playdough modeling encourages children at this age improve their language and
literacy with others at the same time their creativity and thinking skills.
Time frame: 2 hour session
Objectives: In this activity, children will develop:
1. Physically, by rolling, squishing, sculpting and molding playdough. This known
early childhood staple will not only enrich their imagination but it will also
strengthen their muscles in their fingers that they will use one day to hold a pencil and
write.
2. Emotionally, by feeling competent in the work they do and being proud of their
accomplishments. This can be their outlet to release their energy when they overjoyed
or even stressed or angry, playdough can help the way.
3. Socially, by working alongside with others and talking about what their making
and how. They can invite others and encourage to express their ideas through
playdough modeling and they can compare what they have made.
4. Cognitively, by being creative and enriching their imagination in making different
forms of playdough and even in different sizes.
Setup: Playing playdough on the table.
Materials: Playdough in a variety of colors.

Procedures:
A. Transition in
Place playdough on each table and invite children to express their ideas
through art and make believe play with playdough. Encourage them to think outside
the box and make use of the material provided as much as possible.
B. What to do
1. Roam around and watch children while they are doing their stuff and
making the best out of the given playdough. Smile to them and make them feel
confident in what they are doing and assist them whenever they have the need
to.
2. Be attentive into what they are doing and be ready to correct anything
wrong cause they might attempt to taste the playdough.
C. What to say
As the mentor, we should take into account the interest of the children in
doing an activity. So, while children are working on their masterpiece, we can ask
questions or give statements that could stir up their imagination even more which in
turn can help in the activity. This will increase their interest and they’ll fun too.
1. Be jolly, considerate and sensitive when speaking about child’s work. Understand
that for them that is the best they can do. Give statements or even praises that could
lead them to do more and think more creatively.
2. Redirect children’s attention to the playdough when they try to put them into their
mouth or throw it to their friends.
3. Make use of the activity by introducing new word or phrases that children can use
such as the color names per say, the words colorful, shape names and a lot more.
4. Integrate songs too if possible.
D. Transition out
Praise the children for doing wonderful things out of their playdough and
encourage them and make them feel confident to stil do their best in the next activity.
Assessment:
A. Indicators of success: Did the children show interest with the playdough you
provided? Were they eager to sculpt ad fold the playdough in any form they like?
B. Process: Were the children given enough time to explore the materials? How did
you interact with the children?
C. Teacher’s reflection: What did I learn from the activity? What do I need to change
to improve this activity?
