I. OBJECTIVES
a. Familiarize with the primitive and present instruments of measuring time
b. Convert one unit of time to another
c. Solve problems involving time.
d. Appreciate the value of time.
Activity
My Daily Routine!
List all the things the you did after waking up
in the morning until you go to school.
Take note how many minutes
you spent that activity.
From the activity above, you are able to list all your routine before going to school and how
you spent time doing those activities. Have you ever realize how important time is?
Here are some conversion of time we usually encountered.
Illustrative Examples:
3. The amount of time between two given times is called elapsed time. What is the
elapsed time between 8:15 A.M and 5:00 P.M?
Solution: 8 hours 45 minutes
8:15 A.M 4:15 P.M 5:00 P.M.
The elapsed time is 8 hours and 45 minutes.
2. Analysis
a. In the previous Activity, “What’s on the box?’ what are the instruments
you encountered that can be used in measuring and conversion of time?
b. During the primitive period, how do we tell or estimate time? How about at present
how can we convert one nit time to another unit?
c. How importance time is in our life? Cite some real life experiences involves time.
3.Guided Practice
Directions: Find the equivalent units of the following. Encircle the letter of the
correct answer. Use the conversion factors.
4. Independent Practice
A. Write the appropriate symbols ( <, > or =) to compare the following measure of time.
Measure of Time
Primitive men used to tell the time by the position of the sun, the stars
and the moon, and the behavior of animals. They used sundial, water
clock, hour glass and other improvised instruments until mechanical
clock, digital clock and other kind of clock has been invented.
Time is measured by the rotation of Earth on its axis (making one full
day) and its complete revolution around the sun (making one year) in
355 ¼ days.
The following shows the units used to measure time and their equivalent
factor:
60 seconds = 1 minute(min) 10 years = 1 decade
60 minutes = 1 hour (h) 100 years = 1 century
24 hours = 1 day (da) 20 years= 1 score
12 months = 1 year (yr) 1000 years =1 millennium
365 days =1 year
366 days = 1 leap year
52 weeks = 1 year
6. Application
7. Assessment
Convert each of the following to the units indicated:
IV. ASSIGNMENT
