S különös, az újabb franczia drámának ezt az erkölcsös
erkölcstelenségét épen Feuillet fejezi ki a legerősebben, kit mint
regényköltőt méltán tartanak a mérséklet és jó izlés emberének. S
vajon megütközött-e Montjoye-én a közönség? A mű nagy hatást tett
Párisban s nálunk is elég tetszéssel fogadtatott. Igaz, a részletekben
sok olyan van, a mit méltányolni lehet, de az egésznek conceptiója
és compositiója a legélesebb megrovást érdemeli. Ez az irány nem
vezethet egyébre, mint a drámai költészet felbontására, a tragédia
megbuktatására, ha ugyan nem csupán egy átmeneti korszak
zavara és reactio a romantikusok tulságai ellen. Bármint legyen,
feltünő, hogy a franczia kritika oly engedékenységgel viseltetik e mű
iránt. Montégut, a Revue des Deux Mondes kitünő kritikusa, lapokon
át fejtegeti e mű érdemeit; s nagy hibáját mely az egészet tönkre
teszi, csak érinti egy pár sorban. Pedig e hiba olyan, mely iránt a
kritika nem lehet eléggé szigorú, sőt kegyetlen, mert a dráma lelkét
vesztegeti meg. De miért polemizálni egy franczia folyóirattal? A
magyar kritikus szava nem hallik át Francziaországba; boldognak
érezné magát, ha legalább hazájában meghallgatnák.
