B) Survey Works
- After excavation, survey marking will be done on surface for drilling 55mm dia hole into it.
- All S N Bolt on the same surface shall be marked according to centre distance/

C) Drilling of SN Bolt.
- Step-1:- Excavation as per approved drawing and method statement, height of excavation up to 2 m
for setting of drilling machine, mess fixing and shotcrete.
- Step-2: - Setting drilling machine as desired location and alignment for hole direction.
- Step-3: - Drill hole up to required depth 3-6 meter in Rock/soil as per drawing.

D) Installation of S N Bolts :-
 To fix the S N Bolt prepare a temporary wooden plate contains holes relevant to the diameter ,
location and number of S N Bolts as per approved drawings.
 Fix the S N Bolts in the temporary wooden plate accurately.
 Prepare the axis in the top of the neck columns in order to fix the SN Bolts.
 After survey works, start fixing the temporary wooden plate with the S N Bolt in the top of the neck
columns.
 Insert the Bottom part of the Sn Bolts inside the neck columns as per approved drawings.
 After fixing the temporary wooden plate align, level and fix the properly the SN Bolts as per
approved drawings.
 The surveyor has to check the alignment and the level of Sn bolts after fixing..
 The Engineer shall check and After engineer approval cover the S N Bolts with masking tape
protection before concreting.

E) Materials for Grouting:-

The cement to be used for grouting shall be OPC ( Grade -53 ) or equivalent obtained from approved
manufacturer/ supplier.

The admixture of brand fosroc cebex 100 or equivalent will be used. It shall be free if alumina and having a
plasticizer and a retarding agent having the following properties.
 Flowability at a given water / cement ration.
 Reduction of bleeding water.
 Prevention of segregation in high pressure grouting.

5|Page
ME
 Retarding in the setting of grout.
 Expansion of grout.

Purpose: -
The purpose of grouting is to grip S N bolts/ S N Bolt head. This also helps in stabilizing drilled holes,
Grout also fills up void spaces , expelling the water collection therein, if any
1) Cement Grout shall conform to approve drawing.
2) Boreholes for all SN bolts shall be drilled to the depths as required by the lengths of rock bolts
specified for the respective rock class and at diameter, which ensure best workability for grouting,
coupling and installation. The minimum diameter of the bore hole shall be of 30 mm larger than the
diameter of the rock bolts/ couplings installed.
3) The bore holes shall be cleaned of all drill cuttings, sludge and debris.
4) Prior to installation of the rock bolts, the entire borehole shall be filled with cement mortar by
inserting the grout hose to the full depth of the hole and withdrawing as the grout is pumped in.
The nozzle shall be kept buried in the grout as the pipe is withdrawn so that the air is displaced as
the hole is filled. The bolt is then pushed in to the hole.
5) The nut of the grouted bolt shall be tightened not later than 12 hours after the installation to
achieve a force at the anchor plate of approx. 20 KN. This force shall be applied by a calibrated
torque wrench.
6) In case of confined workspace and / or great length of rock bolts, coupling shall be permitted. The
number of coupled parts shall be kept to a minimum. However, the load capacity of such couple
rock bolt shall not be less than that of a standard integral rock bolt. Special attention shall be paid
to the grouting procedure in order to ensure full embedment of the bolt by grout.
7) In case of coupled S N Bolts, partly collapsed boreholes, or major water flow from the bore holes,
grouting may be done after installation of the bolt (post-grouting). The hole is then grouted by
special attachment which allows the mouth of the bore hole to be sealed whilst the grout is
pumped in. Air is displaced from the hole via a tube which is attached to the full length of the rock
bolt as it is installed. Grout is then pumped in and the hole can be seen to be full, when the grout
escapes from the end of the tube.

Grout Properties: -
- The cement shall be prepared with a w/c ratio of 0.35 to 0.4 and expansive grout admixture shall
be added as per requirements.
- 100 mm cube samples shall be taken from the grout mix at the mixer for the subsequent strength
tests.
- The admixture CEBEX 100 or equivalent shall be used in the cement grout as per manufacturer’s
6|Page
ME
guidelines i.e 225gm of CEBEX 100 per bag
of Cement.

Operation: Grouting shall be done in two stages: -

- Primary grouting: - It shall be done immediately after insertion of S N Bolt assembly into the drilled
hole. Application of pressure shall be between 1-3 Kg/ Cm 2.

- Secondary Grouting :- It shall be done 15-20 minutes after primary grouting. The pressure application
shall be within 3 Kg/ Cm2 to further fill the voids and cavities if any left after primary grouting.

F) Records
The following records shall be maintained as OCS Clause no -14.5.3.5.8

For each rock bolt installed the following information shall be recorded ( Rock Bolt Drilling and
Installation)
 Reference number

 Type of installation

 Name of Person taking record
