11. A group of Year 13 students carried out the following steps to examine the
hydrolysis of the ester, methyl salicylate.
Step 2 Add 25ml of sodium hydroxide (2 mol/L) and some boiling chips.
Step 3 Reflux the mixture gently for about 30 minutes, at which time any
oily drops of the ester should have disappeared
Step 6 Filter off the crystals which have formed, under suction, and
