JOB DESCRIPTION OF SENIOR CONSULTANT AT TCS

This role is a techno-functional consulting and advisory role. The person in this
role is responsible for interacting with the business & IT teams of our clients on
one side & the TCS technical team on the other. The individual in this position
will be responsible for interacting with the customer teams to understand the
current state of their business, the strategic goals they want to achieve, and
identify the problems that prevent them from getting there & provide them
with a high-level roadmap to get there using various products and platforms
custom developed by TCS to suit their needs.
An individual in this role shall report to a Principal consultant or a Vice
president and work with a team of enterprise architects and consultants. The
individual needs to supervise a team of technical and solution architects who
are essentially technical folks. Outside the organization, apart from the
customer business & IT teams, the individual needs to work closely with
technology vendors, academia, and innovation partners.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES-:
1. Your primary areas of focus specifically are Data and Analytics,
Machine learning & AI for Banking financial services and Insurance
industry customers.

2. You need to work with customers to either consult on any greenfield


data initiatives such as analytics or database management etc. or to do
a health check of their current initiatives in the field of data analytics.
3. Interact with the businesses on what are the current pain points with
the existing data systems and their applications, what is their end state
vision, convert them into measurable goals, and break the vision down
to the data systems they will need to build.
4. Interact with the technical teams and pass on these consulting &
advisory finding to the TCS teams to build those recommended
applications or systems for the customer organization.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES-:

1. Some of them include contributing organizational-level initiatives such


as mentoring, and recruitment for companywide requirements (as
opposed to group level).
2. Taking part in branding initiatives such as roadshows for improving
group & company visibility, participating in vendor global events for
thought leadership sessions, etc.
3. Discuss implementation-level technical details with customer IT teams in
case of unavailability of the concerned technical person in TCS then
engage in such discussions with the customers.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE-:

1. MBA strongly preferred Proven quantitative, analytical, problem-


solving, and conceptual thinking skills.
2. 15-30 years of experience in consulting & advisory services (as opposed
to project implementation etc).
3. Excellent client interaction skills, collaborative work style, and strong
interpersonal and team skills. Ability to effectively plan and lead the
correct processes to reach conclusions/consensus in a facilitated meeting
and positively handle disruptive or hostile participants. Experience in
directly working with customer organization’s business & IT teams.
4. Technical requirements include project implementation experience in
the capacity of a technical architect/solution architect/platform
architect/ project leader.
5. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Project, and Visio), Tableau, and Power BI to accomplish
daily business activities and facilitate communications.
6. Ability to design and develop technical reference documentation for
project work plans, guidelines, standards, procedures, and processes that
meet the needs of the target audience.
7. An understanding of the latest technology trends in data platforms and
technologies such as big data, cloud, etc.

8. Non-technical requirements will include domain main knowledge of


customer business processes. For example, what are the key business
functions of a commercial bank versus a retail bank versus a capital
market customer versus an insurance organization, etc?
9. The individual has to undergo specially developed multi-level
leadership programs in collaboration with several leadership
development organizations around the world. Typically, these
programs include a good mix of market business trends, technology
trends, soft skills, project management skills, and end-to-end customer
advisory engagement scenarios. Apart from these in-depth technology
training is also offered through platforms such as Udemy, LinkedIn, etc.,
