PART A

GIVEN DATA:

E=4500ksi, I=3500in4, Possion Ratio=0.1 and Area=180 in2.

PROBLEM STATEMENT:

Problem consist of 2D frame with one end hinged and other end with roller support. Frame contains 2.4kip
uniformly distributed load and 10kip point load in X and Y directions. Matrix analysis of frame is required
along with analysis in STAAD.

PART B:

GIVEN DATA:

Sectional properties 1: Solid rectangular cross-section with a depth of 2 mm and an

out of plane thickness of 15 mm
Sectional properties 2: Solid rectangular cross-section with a depth of 1.5 mm and
an out of plane thickness of 15 mm
Load: Force F = 4.9 N
Young's modulus E = 100,000 N/mm2

B.1 uniform frame and offset load

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM:
Problem consist on four different cases with change in loading conditions and frame
characteristics. Frame characteristics has two cases uniform frame and non-uniform
frame with two cases of concentric load (load applied at center of frame) and with
offset load (eccentric load/load away from central point of frame).
REQUIRED: internal force diagrams by use of matrix analysis and STAAD PRO
software a structural analysis and design software for all the four systems.
Comparison of all the four cases.

INFLUENCE OF LOAD POSITION AND CROSS-SECTIONAL
PROPERTIES ON THERESPONSE OF THE FRAME:

It is obvious from above shown details that cross sectional property change and
load position change both influence the response of the frame. The frame sway
towards weak cross sectional property on application of load in case of non-
uniform frame. Similarly, when load is applied at offset the BMD, sfd AND Axial
force diagrams depict those members closer to applied load experience more
deformation for uniform frame case.

CONCLUSION:
Both frame sectional properties and position of applied loads can influnce the
behaviour of structure
