ANNOUNCEMENT

FRCS Part 2: CHANGE OF EXAMINATION FORMAT

Published: July 2021

From October 2021, the assessment for the Part 2 examination will no longer be in two parts. The
new format will consist of a single multiple-choice examination paper of 180 questions and for a
duration of 2.5 hours.

The final diet of the Part 2 problem solving paper was held in March 2021.

A new qualification of MRCS (Ophth) (Glasg) is now available to candidates who:


• have passed the Part 2 Problem Solving examination (pre-June 2021); or
• have passed the Part 2 MCQ examination (from June 2021)

Candidates who meet the following requirements are eligible to apply for the Part 3 examination:
• hold a pass in the Part 1 examination or hold an exempting qualification for Part 1 and;
• hold the exempting qualification for Part 2 and;
• have completed the clinical experience required for entry to Part 2
