Laptop sir.
Yes! That is a laptop.

Okay, so I guess the class is now ready to learn more

about the computer.

C. Lesson Proper
Our topic for today is all about the TYPES OF
COMPUTER AND OPERATING SYSTEMS.

We have different types of computers.

The first one is Desktop, it is a computer designed

typically found in top of desk, desktop model computers
are broad and low, whereas tower model computers are
narrow and tall.

Does anybody in the class have an idea on other types of

computer design?
(The student answer may vary.)
Yes! Cyanne.
Sir we also have the landscape type of
computer.
Yes! We also have that and it is commonly used in office
where the monitor is placed on top of the computer, it can
be found in some supermarket or office.

The next one is Laptop, A small, portable computer --

small enough that it can sit on your lap. Nowadays, a
computer laptop is more frequently called a notebook
computer, though technically laptops are somewhat larger

in size than notebooks in both thickness and weight.

Aside from notebook design of laptop do you have an (The student answer may vary.)
idea on other design of laptop.
Sir we also have Dynabook and Elitebook.
Yes Ms. President.

Correct! EliteBook is also thinner than Dynabook.

Next, we have Tablet, A tablet is a type of notebook
computer that has an LCD screen on which the user can
write using finger and swipe actions or by using a special-
purpose pen, or stylus.

The last one is Smartphone, Smartphones are a handheld

device that integrates mobile phone capabilities with the
more common features of a handheld computer or PDA.
Smartphones allow users to store information, e-mail,
install programs, along with using a mobile phone in one
device.
Now that you know the different types of computers
let’s move on to the next part of our topic which is the
different types of software.
Does any of you have an idea regarding the OS or (Student answer may vary.)
operating system.
Yes, Anna,
Correct! Operating system makes the computer work or
function.

Now, An operating system (OS), in its most general

sense, is software that allows a user to run other
applications on a computing device.
The operating system manages a computer's software
hardware resources, including:
• Input devices such as a keyboard and mouse.
• Output devices such as display monitors, printers and
scanners.
• Network devices such as modems, routers and network
connections.
• Storage devices such as internal and external drives.
(Student answer may vary.)
Does anybody have a question so far.

If non let is proceed with the different classification of

operating system.
Multi-user: Allows two or more users to run programs
at the same time. Some operating systems permit
hundreds or even thousands of concurrent users.
Multiprocessing: Supports running a program on more
than one CPU.
Multitasking: Allows more than one program to run
concurrently.
Multithreading: Allows different parts of a single
program to run concurrently.
Real time: Responds to input instantly. General-purpose
operating systems, such as DOS and UNIX, are not real-
time.
Let’s now proceed with the most popular desktop
operating system.
Taking the top place, we have Microsoft Windows is a
family of operating systems for personal and business
computers. Windows dominates the personal computer
world, offering a graphical user interface (GUI), virtual
memory management, multitasking, and support for
many peripheral devices.

Can anybody in the class give mw the different Microsoft

window OS?
(Student answer may vary.)
Yes, Joshua
Very Good, windows 11 is the latest OS for windows
laptop.
Taking the second place we have Mac OS, it is the
official name of the Apple Macintosh operating system.
Mac OS features a graphical user interface (GUI) that
utilizes windows, icons, and all applications that run on a
Macintosh computer have a similar user interface.

The third most popular is Linux, it is a freely distributed

open-source operating system that runs on a number of
hardware platforms. The Linux kernel was developed
mainly by Linus Torvalds and it is based on Unix.

Now here’s the total rangking for most popular OS.

According to Netmarketshare.com, the most used
desktop operating system and versions used on PCs
(Desktops and laptops) from January to November, 2019
are:
Windows 87.40%
Mac OS 10.06%
Linux 1.95%
Chrome OS 0.39%
Unknown 0.20%
BSD 0.01%

Let’s move on to mobile operating system.

Popular mobile operating systems include iPhone OS /

iOS and Android OS.
The mobile OS is responsible for determining the
functions and features available on your device, such as
thumb wheel, keyboards, WAP, synchronization with
applications, email, text messaging and more. The mobile
OS will also determine which third-party applications
(mobile apps) can be used on your device.
(Student answer may vary.)
Do you have any questions regarding today’s topic.
If there’s no question let us have a simple quiz.
