History
Glass is well known as one of the integral material,
one that can blend interior with exterior, let the
natural light goes through and the same time keeps
the two aparts.

Making glass dates back to Mesopotamia, 7000 years

ago, an abundance of glass wares has been found
aling with jewelleries made of pure gold and precious
stones.

The use of glass as a building material dates back to

ancient Rome with blown method (low quality and
small sheets) until 17 th century.

The 20 th century saw this technique improve to

produce a much larger glass sheet from fourcault to
float glass technique that has been used until
nowadays.

Building Sector

Buildings account for 28% operational carbon

39% of global GHG 11% embodied carbon
emissions.

• Emissions from energy used to build, heat • Green buildings can contribute significantly
and cool buildings to reduce GHG emissions
• Direct emissions (burning fuel for heating, • Energy efficient glass can play a role to
cooking, etc) and indirect emissions (grid reduce energy consumption and
electricity for air conditioning, appliances, associated CO2 emission
etc) from the buildings sector in Indonesia
account for 4.6% and 24.5% of total
energy-related CO₂ emissions, respectively

Building Environment Trend
United Nation & Countries today are actively
pushing sustainability policies and Green
Building Certifications.

Architects and Façade consultants are

seeking to design and build sustainable
buildings, with higher-performance building
materials.

Building envelope design criteria,

including façade glass, are getting stricter by
climates.
Climate Glass Performance
Tropical Better shading (Lower SC)
Colder Better insulation (lower U-value)
and higher light transmission

Glass Characteristics
The lower SC and SC & U Value (Glass Characteristics)
U-Value, the less
heat transfers

Why Does Glazing Matter ?
OTTV (Overall Thermal Transfer Value) formula :

0.2% to 5% 10% to 20% 70% to 85%

KEY PARAMETERS
Understanding range of WWR: • WWR (Window to Wall Ratio)
• SC (Shading Coefficient)
• U-Value

How to improve (lower) Shading Coefficient?
We can easily improve (lower) the In today’s building environment, high
Shading Coefficient (SC) by using performance glass is required. This can
coloured (Tinted) glass. be supported by using coated glass.

To have
higher
performance
Colored glass Coated glass
• Easy & low cost • Better control of LT vs SF.
• Decrease the LT (~45 - 70%) • Decrease the LT (~5 - 75%) and SC
and SC (~40 - 70%) (~10 - 60%)
