Chords and Intercepted arc

Lesson 3.3
Presented by: Group 3 Einstein
In this lesson, you will:
derive inductively the relations between chords
and intercepted arcs and
prove theorems related to chords, segments of
the chords, and arcs.
The Perpendicular to a Chord Theorem
The perpendicular from the center
of the circle to any chord bisects
the chord.
The Center to Chord Midpoint Theorem
The line joining the center of
the circle to the midpoint of
any chord which is not a
diameter is perpendicular to
the chord.
The Perpendicular Bisector Chord to Center Theorem

The perpendicular bisector of a

chord of a circle through the center
of the circle
The Perpendicular Bisector Chord to Central Angle Theorem
The perpendicular bisector of a
chord of a circle bisects the
central angle subtended by the
chord.
The Central Angle Bisector Theorem
The perpendicular bisector of a
chord of a circle bisects the
central angle subtended by the
chor.
Distance-Chord Theorem
In the same circle or in congruent,
circles, chord are congruent if and only if thier
distances from the center (s) of the circle(s)
are equal.
Chord-Arc Congruence Theorem
In a circle or congruent circles,
two minor arcs are congruent if
and only if their corresponding
chords are congruent.
The Intersectling Segments of Chords Power Theorem
If two chords intersect in the interior of
the circle, then the product of the lengths
of the segments of one chord is equal to
the product of the lengths of the
segments of the other chord.
Target Skill;
The Prependicular to a Chord Theorem
Example:
If the radius of the circle is 5cm, what is the length of the chord whose distance from
the center is 3 cm?
