Private limited companies account for 95% of the total companies with 37% of the
total Paid-up Capital. In comparison, Public Limited companies are smaller in
number (5%) but comprise 64% of the total Paid-up Capital. (Table 3)

Economic Sector-wise classification (NIC-2004) reveals that the Business Services
has been has highest number of Active companies (30%) followed by Manufacturing
(21%), Trading (13%) and Community, Personal and Social Services (9%). It is also
observed that Agriculture Sector saw the maximum increase in the total number of
Active Companies, followed by Service Sector and Industry Sector. In the Service
Sector, Community, personal & Social Services Sector showed the maximum rise in
the number of Active Companies. (Table 3).

Amongst the 37 States/UT, Maharashtra (20%) continues to be the state with highest
number of Active Companies, followed by Delhi (15%) and West Bengal (9%). An
increase in the number of Active Companies is witnessed in the states of Mizoram,
Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura as compared to December 2022. Among the Union
territories, Andaman & Nicobar showed a rise of 2.4% in contrast to December 2022.

03 New Registration in January 2023
New Registration of Companies
A total of 12,166 companies were registered with a collective Paid-up Capital of Rs.
765.69 Crore. Out of the total new registrations, 12,091 companies were registered
as Companies Limited by Shares with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 765.67 Crore, 75
companies were registered as Companies Limited by Guarantee with a Paid-Up
Capital of Rs. 0.02 Crore. There was an increase in the paid-up capital by 24% during
January 2023 when compared to December 2022. (Table 5)
Economic-activity wise classification of new companies registered reveals that the
predominant share of companies is in Business Services (24%) followed by
Manufacturing (19%), Community, personal & Social Services (14%) and Trading
(12%). (Table 6)

State/UT-Wise Analysis of new registered companies shows that Union Territory,
Andaman & Nicobar and Dadra & Nagar Haveli have started gaining momentum in

terms of registration of 10 and 3 new companies. The top three states that receive the
highest number of new registrations during January 2023 were Maharashtra with
19% which amounts to 2,290 corporates, Uttar Pradesh with 11% coming in at 1,378
and Delhi following closely behind at 9% belonging to 1,099 companies with a
collective paid-up capital of Rs. 435.77 crore. (Table 7)

New Registration of Director Identification Number (DIN)
Out of the total number of directors registered in India in January 2023, 70% were
male and the remaining 30% were female. A close analysis on Indian Directors
revealed that 43% of new directors registered belongs to age 31-45 years old, of
which, 68% were male and 32% female. Furthermore, 7% of the new director
registrations were older than 60 years. Maharashtra witnessed the highest, i.e., 15%
of the total registrations of Directors while North-Eastern states had 244 director
registrations. (Table 9)

04 One Person Company
As on 31st January 2023, a total number of 45,360 One Person Companies were
active with a collective Paid up capital of Rs. 612.25 Crore. (Table 10)
During January 2023, a total number of 769 One Person Companies were registered
with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 6.99 Crore.
Economic Sector-wise classification shows a rise of 6% in the active One Person
Companies in Mining & Quarrying sector in January 2023 over December 2022.

Among all States/UT, Chandigarh showed a rise of 250% in the number of new One
Person Companies during January 2023 as compared to December 2022.

05 Limited Liability Partnership
With an increase of new 10,478 Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) during the
quarter November 2022 to January 2023, a total number of 2,67,718 LLPs were
active in the country as of 31st January 2023. (Table 11 & 12)

06 Foreign Company
As on 31st January 2023, there were a total of 5,099 foreign companies registered in
India. Out of these, 65% (3,295) were Active. Of the 18 new overseas business
entities that were registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs during November
2022-January 2023, 28% were established in Maharashtra, 17% each in Delhi and
Karnataka, 11% in Gujarat, Haryana & Tamil Nadu, and 5% in Uttarakhand. When
looking at the economic activity classification, it was revealed that 50% of the
companies can be classified as 'Business Services’. (Table 14)
During January 2023, one foreign company was registered as Project Office to
execute a particular project in India.

07 Miscellaneous
In January 2023, a total of 2,24,178 forms were filed with the Ministry of
Corporate Affairs. Of which, 65,883 AOC-4 forms were filed, followed by 48,117
MGT-7A, 37,404 ADT-1, 13,585 CHG-1 and 13,046 MGT-7. (Table 15)
During January 2023, a total of 8,544 companies were struck off, of which 6,430
companies’ names were removed from the Register of Companies u/s 248 by the
Ministry of Corporate Affairs, and 2,114 applications were received from
companies to strike off their names from the register.
MCA facilitates its registered users to login and view/download all the forms filed
by the company. 4,58,273 documents were viewed/downloaded by the users in
January 2023.
