13. Write the following sets in the Roster form

15. State which of the following statements are true and which are false. Justify
your answer.
(i) If X = {1, 2, 3} and Y = {x: x ∈ R and 1 ≤ x ≤ 3}, then X = Y.
(ii) Set {a, b, c, d} and {d, c, b, a} are equal sets.
(iii) If A = {Φ, 1, 2, {3}, {4}, 5}, then {1, 2, {3}} ∈ A.

SETS

1. (i)2x – 1 is always an odd number for all positive integral values of x. In particular,
2x – 1 is an odd number for x = 1, 2,..., 9. Thus, A = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9}.
(ii) x 2 + 7x – 8 = 0 or (x + 8) (x – 1) = 0, giving x = – 8 or x = 1 Thus, C = {– 8, 1}
2. (i)Let A = {x | x ∈ X and 2x ∉ X} Now, 1 ∉ A as 2.1 = 2 ∈ X 2 ∉ A as 2.2 = 4 ∈ X,
3 ∉ A as 2.3 = 6 ∈ X But 4 ∈ A as 2.4 = 8 ∉ X 5 ∈ A as 2.5 = 10 ∉ X 6 ∈ A as
2.6 = 12 ∉ X. So, A = {4, 5, 6}
(ii) Let B = {x | x ∈ X and x + 5 = 8}. Here, B = {3} as x = 3 ∈ X and 3 + 5 = 8 and
there is no other element belonging to X such that x + 5 = 8.
(iii) Let C = {x | x ∈ X, x > 4} Therefore, C = {5, 6}.
3. x=10 ∵T={10}. Hence, T is not an empty set.
4. C={5} (since x−5=0).Roots of the equation x2−2x−15=0 : (x−5)(x+3)=0.
x=−3,5 But x is positive ⇒E={5}.Hence C= E.
5. The set in set builder form can be written as S= { , 𝑛 ∈ 𝑁, 1 ≤ 𝑛 ≤ 4}.

Substituting x=3 in the expression, we get
(3)4−5(3)3+2(3)2−112(3)+6 =−366≠0 true
(iv)The factors of 496 are 1,2,4,8,16,31,62,124,248,496
∴ Sum of factors =1+2+4+8+16+31+62+124+248+496
∴ Sum of factors =992=2×496
Hence, statement is false, because 496 is an element of the set.
