Answer:

Bismillah,

This Hadith is mentioned in Muslim and other books of Hadith. Imam Bukhari1
(without a chain), by Abu Dawood, An-Nasaai, Ahmed etc.2

This Hadith is very important, as is the Hadith of Intention (Hadith2 of 40) as

these encompasses the pillars of Islam3, Imaan4 and Ihsan5, thus effecting out
daily lives.

Religion is Nasihah. This word cannot be translated in English as a single word,

we have to fully understand the comprehensiveness of its meaning and
ramifications for our lives.

Linguistic: to purify or to put together should be understood from the Istilaah6

Allah did not order us to worship Him (SWT) except with sincerity of intention
and sincerity of action with a pure heart for His sake only.7

Wishing well for a fellow human being and calling them to it is sincere advice a
mark of a true believer, regardless of outcome. Allah orders us to worship Him
alone sincerely and any other forms of worship will be rejected8

To call to goodness requires knowledge, without which it is counterproductive.

Sincerity to please Allah is a noble trait of all the Prophets of Allah.9&10

May Allah be pleased with them all

Five pillars: Shahadah (faith – Imaan): sincerely declaring and adopting it, Salah (prayers): five times each day, Zakah: paying
2.5% of annual wealth for the benefit of the poor and the needy, Sawm: fasting during the month of Ramadan, Hajj: annual
pilgrimage to Mecca, at least once in life time (if able).
4
Six pillars: Belief in Oneness of Allah, His Angels, His revealed Books, His Messengers, Day of Judgement, Al-Qadar
(Divine Preordainments and Decree)
5
Ihsaan is a single pillar: “To worship Allah as if you see Him, for even though you do not see Him, He sees you” (Hadith of Jibreel).

8 Surah Az-Zumar 39:3 “Surely, the religion is for Allâh only. And those who take Auliyâ' besides Him (say): "We
worship them only that they may bring us near to Allâh." Verily, Allâh will judge between them concerning that
wherein they differ. Truly, Allâh guides not him who is a liar, and a disbeliever.

To Allah
Nasihah here implies belief in Allah, His revealed books; our actions become
good when done to please Allah. Obeying Allah’s commands and prohibitions,
believing in His revelations in its entirety12, purify our intentions and our hearts
for Allah’s sake only13, doing all acts of worship, Glorifying Allah14 and be
thankful15 to Him for whatever He decreed for us, feeding and helping the needy
Allah Hears and Sees us at all times (by His Knowledge).16 Best of ways to do
any actions for Allah’s sake wishing goodness for others and that is Ihsan.

To His Book
Believe in the whole Qur’an as the uncreated words of Allah, understand and
implement it in our daily lives. Equally believing in As-Suhuf, Az-Zaboor, At-
Taurât and Al-Injeel.

Giving due respect to the Qur’an, not touching it in a state janabah requiring
obligatory washing17, reciting the Qur’an. Some scholars say do not touch it
without ablution (wudu).18

Reciting the Qur’an daily and protecting the right of Qur’an against
mistranslation and misinterpretation are nasihah to the Book.

To His Messenger (peace be upon him):

As part of Shahadah, believe in him (pbuh) and follow his Sunnah.
Eager to learn about him, from his Seerah and follow his Sunnah, implement in
our lives. Obey Allah, and Obey Allah’s Messenger and those in authority19

(Muslims) who are in authority. (And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allâh and His Messenger
(SAW), if you believe in Allâh and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination. “
To Muslim rulers (and scholars)
It is Sunnah to advice them privately and not publicly. If they accept advice,
Khayr, if they do not, leave it at that, obligation of nasihah done. Wish good for
them and make dua’ for their guidance sincerely to the truth. Show respect for
the scholars and not searching for their mistakes and having trust in them.

To Muslim common folks

Whatever we love for ourselves we should love for our brothers / sisters and
whatever we do not like we should not want the same for our brothers and
sisters. Their elderly should be respected and showing mercy to their youngsters
Be happy with their happiness and sad with their sadness. We should not be
envious for them in our hearts and wishing them goodness.
