MODULE 2 MASTER NOTES
Civil Engineering is one of the most old and important engineering discipline as it makes
the world habitable by designing, building and maintaining the infrastructure that
people use every day.
• Transportation engineering
• Structural engineering
Analyzes and designs the structure of buildings, bridges, towers, tunnels, and other
structures. Structural engineering helps determine the best materials and geometries
for each structural member, and provides a detailed analysis of the entire structure.
• Environmental engineering
Focuses on protecting the environment from pollution and the negative impacts of
human activity and climate change. Environmental engineers design systems to
manage waste, promote sustainability, and reduce the impact of infrastructure on the
environment. They also work on projects related to water and air pollution, recycling,
large-scale farming, and soil contamination.
• geotechnical engineering
Studies how soils behave under loading forces and in interactions with water. This
knowledge is used to design foundations, retaining walls, earth dams, and other
structures, while also minimizing the impact of projects on the
environment. Geotechnical engineers may also design sustainable structures like
permeable pavements and green roofs.
