Module 5: Activity 2 – Creating an illustration in Pages3D

Objective:
In this activity you will learn how to create an illustration in Solid Edge 3D
Publishing.

Activity:
Step 1: Open a Solid Edge 3D Publishing model.

• Launch Solid Edge 3D Publishing.

• From the startup screen, click on Open.

• Browse to your class folder and select the 3DPub_Illustration.qsd file.

 • Click Open and wait for the file to open.

Step 2: Create an exploded view.

• Select the Model tab.

• From the Exploded Views pulldown, select New Exploded View.

• Name this one Main Exploded View and click OK.

• Observe that you are now in explode-edit mode. Notice the mouse
cursor has changed to indicate it is ready to select and move parts.
Also, a button will be displayed in the top-right corner.

• Using the techniques that you learned in Solid Edge Illustrations,

create the following exploded view.

Note: The exploded view does not have to be exactly like this, but it
should be similar.

Remember: You can use the viewpoint commands to manipulate the

view. But if you do, you must reselect the Move Parts command before
moving a component again.

• Once you are happy with your exploded view, click .

Step 3: Create an illustration.

• Select the Illustrate tab.

• From the Illustrations ribbon group, click on New (or click on New
from the Storyboard panel)

• This will display a dialog box allowing you to name this illustration.

• Name this one, Exploded View, and uncheck Edit Markups Now.
 • Click OK to create the new illustration.

• Observe your illustration. Note: If necessary, go to the Illustrate tab,

and then click the Show command to see the storyboard.

Note: The commands and methods that you learned in Solid Edge
Illustrations apply in Solid Edge 3D Publishing.

• The 3D tools used in Solid Edge 3D Publishing are the same as

those used in Solid Edge Illustrations. Solid Edge Illustrations is
simpler to use and understand because you can focus on just the 3D.
In Solid Edge 3D Publishing, 3D is combined with page layout so you
must understand how to switch between working with page layout and
working with the 3D tools.

• The key to using Solid Edge 3D Publishing effectively is to

understand the different steps needed to import the 3D model and
switch modes so that the 3D tools are active.

• Close Solid Edge 3D Publishing. You do not have to save the

document.

• This completes the activity.
