Where slugging is expected in the piping system, slug loads shall be calculated and
applied on the change of direction. Particular attention shall be given to the pipe support
design for these systems. Pipe support shall be capable of withstanding the slug load
without interfering with thermal expansion.

6.7 Flange Loadings

For API flanges, Flange loading shall be checked as per API 6AF.

6.8 Spring Hanger/ Supports

The use of spring hangers / support shall be kept to a minimum by careful consideration
of support location and alternative piping routing.

6.9 Friction

Generally, friction shall be considered at all supports, particularly local to sensitive

equipment nozzles and long piping runs.

Following coefficient of friction shall be used in calculation

0.1 - Steel to Teflon or Teflon to Teflon or PTFE

0.4 - Steel to Steel

6.10 Expansion Joints/Expansion Bellows

Expansion joints/Expansion Bellows and other such mechanical devices shall not be
used without Client approval.

6.11 External Loading

External loads and displacements shall be considered on a project-specific basis.

The effects on piping system of relative movements betweens modules, modules

deflections, modules settlements, well head movements and other imposed deflections
shall be investigated where ever applicable.

case are removed, in order to more accurately model the actual sustained case.

7.9.2 Displacement load case

The computed displacement stress range shall be generally be limited to 80% of the
allowable displacement range. Where this is not practical for ASME B31.3 system,
additional examination of welds may be required in accordance with ASME B31.3,
para 319.4.5.
Displacement Stress range between minimum temperature to maximum
temperature shall be determined as algebraic difference between the value at
maximum metal temperature and minimum metal temperature for the thermal cycle
under analysis.
For ASME B31.3 Piping system. equation 1(b) may be used when the computed
longitudinal stress is less than the basic allowable stress at temperature (i.e. liberal
stress allowable).

7.9.3 Occasional Load Case

Allowable longitudinal stress level for occasional loads shall be in accordance with
code requirements.
Wind, seismic and any other loads shall not be considered as acting concurrently.
