CROCHET PATTERN BY
Welcome!
I hope you will enjoy the creation of this mouse! Please don't hesitate to contact me at
hello@theresascrochetshop.com with any questions that you may have along the way. Have fun!

Meet Maxwell The Mouse!

Maxwell is a well-behaved little mouse who will not invade your pantry to nibble through your dry
goods. He will make his nest outside your house and not bother you at all. Except when it comes to
your cheese. Then I can make no promises...

Notes
1. Safety eyes can be found on Etsy, Amazon, eBay, or your local craft store. They can be
substituted with embroidered eyes if you prefer.

2. This pattern is crocheted in continuous rounds (you will not join each round).

3. In my patterns, I begin each circle with “ch 2, 6 sc in first ch.” Another way of beginning is to start
with a magic circle. If you are more familiar with this method, just do 6 sc into your magic circle.

4. Single crochet decrease stitch explanation:

Insert the hook into the next stitch and yarn over. Pull a loop through so that there are now 2
loops on the hook. Insert the hook into the next stitch and yarn over. Pull a loop through so that
there are now 3 loops on the hook. Yarn over again and pull the loop of yarn through all 3 loops
on the hook.

R2: (Sc 2, inc), 2 times. (8 sts)
R3: (Sc 3, inc), 2 times. (10 sts)

R10: (Sc 4, inc), 6 times. (36 sts)
R11: (Sc 17, inc), 2 times. (38 sts)

Here, pause on making the head to sew on the nose. Thread

a long strand of pink yarn onto your yarn needle. Then going
through the inside of the head, pull the yarn needle out
through the center of your beginning circle. Insert the needle
back into the nose 2 rounds up (Figure 1). Repeat this stitch
about 15 times or until you are happy with the thickness of
the sewn nose. Secure the yarn with a knot inside the head
and stuff the leftover yarn into the mouse’s nose.

Next, insert the safety eyes into the mouse’s head between
R8 and R9, about 10 sts apart across the top. When you have
double-checked to make sure they are inserted into the same Figure 1: Nose
round and are equal distance from the nose, firmly press the
backs onto the eyes. Now, go on to finish the head... A B

R12-17: Sc 38. (38 sts x 6 total rounds)

Fasten off, leaving a yarn tail for closing and sewing. Finish
stuffing the head. Use the yarn tail to weave through the
front loops of the 6 sts (Figure 2-A & B) and pull tight to close
the hole (Figure 2-C). Secure with a knot and weave in the end
(Figure 2-D).

Your mouse’s head will now look as pictured to the (Figure 3).

Ears (make 2)
With gray yarn,
R1: Ch 2, 4 sc in first ch. (4 sts) Figure 3: Head

R4: (Sc 2, inc), 3 times. (12 sts)
R5: (Sc 1, inc), 6 times. (18 sts)
R6: (Sc 5, inc), 3 times. (21 sts)

Fasten off, leaving a yarn tail for sewing. Pinch the very
bottom of the ear together and do a stitch or 2 to hold this in
place to form a crease at the bottom of the ear (Figure 4).
Now position the ears on either side of the head about 5

R10: (Sc 3, dec), 6 times. (24 sts)
Figure 5: Front View
R11: (Sc 2, dec), 6 times. (18 sts)
R12: (Sc 4, dec), 3 times. (15 sts)
R13-14: Sc 15. (15 sts x 2 total rounds)

R1: Ch 2, 6 sc in first ch. (6 sts)
R2: (Sc 2, inc), 2 times. (8 sts)
R3: Sc 8. (8 sts)
R4: Dec, sc 6. (7 sts)
Switch to gray,
R5-8: Sc 7. (7 sts x 4 total rounds)

Figure 6: Arm
Now, before fastening off, stuff the arms with a little bit of
stuffing. Then sc through both layers across the top of the
arm to close it with (3 sc stitches across, as show in Figure 6).
Fasten off, leaving a yarn tail for sewing. Then position the
arms onto the sides of the body, right below the head, and
sew the arms to the sides of the body.

Feet (make 2)
With pink yarn,
R1: Ch 2, 6 sc in first ch. (6 sts)
R2: (Sc 1, inc), 3 times. (9 sts)
Figure 7: Side View
R3: Sc 9. (9 sts)
R4: Dec, sc 7. (8 sts)
R5: Dec, sc 6. (7 sts)
R6: Dec, sc 5. (6 sts)
R7: Sc 6. (6 sts)

Wait to fasten off. Do not stuff the feet. Crochet the ends of
the feet closed as you did with the arms (2 sc across). Fasten
off, leaving a yarn tail for sewing. Now sew the feet to the
bottom of the body, on either side of the beginning circle of
the body (Figure 8). Figure 8: Bottom View

Tail
With pink yarn,
R1: Ch 21, turn, and starting in the second ch from the hook,
sc 20. (20 sts)

Fasten off, leaving a short yarn tail for sewing. Sew the pink
tail to the back of the mouse’s body (Figure 8).

Cheese Top And Bottom (x2)

With orange yarn,
R1: Ch 6, turn and starting in 2nd chain from hook (which you
will do for all the following rows), sc 5. (5 sts)
R2: Turn, sc 4. (4 sts)
R3: Turn, sc 3. (3 sts)
R4: Turn, sc 2. (2 sts)
R5: Turn, sc 1. (1 st)
Fasten off, leaving a yarn tail for sewing (Figure 9).

Figure 9: Cheese Pieces

Cheese Border
R1: Ch 3, turn and starting in the 2nd chain from the hook, sc
2. (2 sts)
R2: Ch 1, sc 2. (2 sts)

Repeat R2 until the rectangular strip you are making is long

enough to fit all the way around the cheese triangle you
made. Then fasten off, leaving a yarn tail for sewing.

Sew this strip all around the edge of the first triangle you
made. Then sew the second triangle to the bottom Figure 10: Finished Cheese
(Figure 10). Stuff with a little stuffing just before you finish
sewing them together.

If you want your block of cheese to be firmer, cut a triangle

out of thin cardboard and slip it inside the top and/or bottom
of the cheese.

And there you go, you are done!

Thank you so much for joining me in making a cute little

mouse! Enjoy! Figure 11: Finished Mouse
