Introduction
Concrete classified as "pavement quality” (PQC) is mostly used for building
highways, roads and runway pavements to take heavy loads.. It is distinct from regular
conventional concrete in that it contains aggregate with a size of 31.5 mm. It works well
for high-traffic volumes and is mostly used for building national highways.

substances harmful to the finished concrete.

Challenges
• Cost Considerations: striking a balance between the requirement for
high-performance PQC and financial limitations, especially in large-scale
infrastructure projects where life-cycle and initial construction costs need to be
carefully considered.
• Quality Control: Ensuring consistent quality control and assurance throughout the
PQC construction process, including material selection, mixing, placement, curing,
and testing, to meet project specifications and performance requirements.
Case Studies
In just one day, an NHAI contractor set a world record for
the most Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC) laid on a 2,580
meter long, four-lane highway. The contractor, Patel
Infrastructure Limited, has achieved a feat that has been
acknowledged by the Golden Book of World Records and
the India Book of Records.
The record was created as part of the greenfield 8-lane
Delhi-Vadodara-Mumbai expressway project, and it was
