I. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background
Menurut Fahmi (2016) Kepemimpinan merupakan suatu ilmu yang mengkaji secara
komprehensif tentang bagaimana mengarahkan, mempengaruhi, dan mengawasi orang
lain untuk mengerjakan tugas sesuai dengan perintah yang direncanakan. Pemimpin
merupakan orang yang memimpin ataupun seorang yang menggunakan wewenang
serta mengarahkan bawahannya guna mengerjakan pekerjaan untuk mencapai tujuan
tertentu dari suatu organisasi. Pemimpin harus mampu mempengaruhi orang
disekitarnya untuk melakukan apa yang tidak ingin dilakukan, atau untuk melakukan apa
yang enggan dilakukan dan membuat mereka menyukainya. Pemimpin yang berhasil
hendaknya memiliki beberapa kriteria yang tergantung pada sudut pandang atau
pendekatan yang digunakan, apakah itu kepribadiannya, keterampilan, bakat, sifat-
sifatnya, atau kewenangannya yang dimiliki. Seorang pemimpin mesti bersikap optimis
ditengah pesimis atau skeptis, harus bisa melihat peluang di tengah krisis atau ancaman.
Dengan adanya sikap mental yang optimis dan usaha melihat peluang, maka sedikitnya
pemimpin itu akan disebut pemimpin (Asbari, 2020; Asbari, Novitasari, et al., 2021;
Asbari, Purba, et al., 2021; Zaman et al., 2020).1
Berdasarkan SK Mendikbud RI Nomor 155/U/1998 tanggal 30 Juni 1998
menjelaskan tentang Pedoman Umum Organisasi Kemahasiswaan (PUOK) di Perguruan
Tinggi diselenggrakan berdasarkan prinsip dari, oleh, dan untuk mahasiswa dengan
memberikan peranan dan keleluasaan lebih besar kepada mahasiswa. Dalam
survei Susanna Hartawan, CEO NBO Indonesia & Managing
Director Thomas International Indonesia mengenai productivity
and leadership development yang bertajuk Indonesia Human
Capital and Leadership Survey 2022 itu, Organisasi
membutuhkan productivity sebanyak 55% dan leadership
development 50% hasil dari survey itupun menunjukkan bahwa
sebanyak 60% koresponden setuju leadership

• This event using Roma 10:12 as the biblical foundation, Romans 10:12 (ESV)
Love one another as brothers and go before one another in giving honor. This
verse gives us a message that in becoming leaders we need to lead other people
with compassion and initiative to care for other people and be willing to be
leaders who can be a stumbling block for other people to achieve common.
This event is an implementation to fulfill UPH graduate profile, which are:
1. A scholar exposed to liberal arts education taught from a Biblical
Christian worldview; Participants will be a leader based on
Biblical worldview
2. A leader equipped with a vision of transformation; Paticipants
will be leaders who have clear vision in order to able to lead
others and give positive impacts to those they lead
3. A citizen encouraged to serve God, his country, and his
neighbors; Participants will be leaders who serve their friends by
giving impactful inspiration

The name of this event is Cornerstone Initiative (CSI) " Be burnt, Spreading,
Stable in Behavior”. CSI is a leadership training activity where the aim is to lead
other people around them to achieve the same goal. This CSI uses certified
leadership training modules and focuses on leading others. CSI will be a forum for
UPH students to practice leading others.
The CSI tagline is " Be burnt, Spreading, Stable in Behavior ". First “Be burnt”, a
leader must have the initiative to lead, because the object is to lead other people,
so initiative is needed from within oneself and expressing one's thoughts to others
to achieve a goal. Secondly, "Spreading" which is a transformational leader.
Successful leaders have the characteristics of being forward-looking and seeing
possibilities in the future. They go beyond the horizon of time, see things before
they happen, even though they are not clearly visible because they are seen from
afar, and they also imagine that things -Ordinary and extraordinary things are
possible and ordinary things can turn into something extraordinary. The last
“Stable in behaviour” Donald Kennedy, president of Stanford University in 1985,
understood the leadership model he lived by, with consistency and conviction, and
by practicing it every day, he showed others how the vision could be realized.
As he put it: “a leader's job is to use his mind like a mirror to reflect back to his
institution what thoughts are best for him. Chris Argyris of Harvard University
distinguishes between “received values” and “realized values.” Workers pay more
attention to applied values than to applied values. They are important when there
is a large gap between values and actions. Because value is something deep
(abstract), we never really "see" the value itself. This must be a reality for
employees and customers.Leaders bring real value to their followers through their
behavior and activities, such as: opinions, attitudes, preferences, desires, interests,
activities, strategies, etc. The environment they lead views their leaders as role
models for how they should behave. Every action or inaction of a leader is

information about the leader's values and his or her seriousness about those
values. They only pay attention to what the leader does, not what the leader says.
Real, practical and concrete management is one example. Workers can see what is
expected and required of them by observing what leaders do. CSI 2024 has a
target of 400 participants who can register from all majors starting from the 2021-
2023 class.

Other than sessions, there will be an escape room where participants will work
together as a team to solve the case made by the committee. This activity is
conducted as part of the event to assess the participants’ knowledge and
understanding on the material given during the session. The mentor will be
assessing the participants in this escape room.
There will also be a mentorship session where the mentors and participants
can share with each other about their knowledge and experiences in
leadership, especially in leading others. On the other side, a Discipline Team
that will help to explain and instill the values in the participants. It is expected
that the participants can understand the values given and implement them in
their life.
