8. STYLIZING TEXT
In the previous Lesson we have learnt how to work with artistic and paragraph

some other techniques.

8.0 Objectives

After going through this Lesson, you should be able to

• Change fonts of the Text.

• Do Alignment in a text document.

8.1 Introduction
You might have seen different brand names written in beautiful shapes forms or
styles. Also, the text on the advertisements or posters of products or shop’s banners or
movies are often depicted or shown in eye catching appearance. With Corel draw you
can also give any form, colour or textural appearance to the text you create in it. Let us
learn to have more fun with text on CorelDraw.

8.2 Applying Style Using Shape Tool

CorelDraw offers a very versatile tool – the Shape tool. It is the second tool from
the top on the tool bar. This tool is a very handy tool and can be used on shapes as well
as text. This tool enables reshaping the object with the help of nodes. A new look can
be given to the object by working with these nodes.

For example, the text shown below was written with ‘Impact’ font and has been
distorted to give it a new appearance.

To use the shape tool, right click on the text and then select the option Convert to
curves. This shows all the nodes of the object. Now select the shape tool and work with
the object.
8.3 Style Exercises
i) Creating, applying, and editing graphic and text styles

A style is a set of formatting attributes. When a style is applied to an object, all

the attributes of the style are applied to that object in one step. Styles can save
considerable time if the same formatting is applied to several objects. There are graphic
styles and text styles.

A text style is a set of text settings such as font type, size, colour. Text styles also
include fill and outline attributes.

8.3.1 To create a graphic or text style from an object

1. Right-click an object whose style properties are to be saved.
2. Click Styles Save style properties.
3. Enable one or more of the following check boxes:
• Text
• Fill
• Outline
4. Type a name for the style in the Name box.
Note: When a style is created from an existing object, CorelDraw does not
automatically apply the style to the object. If the object has to use the style, it
must be applied the style.

Tip: A graphic or text style can be created from an object by dragging the object to
the Graphic and text styles Docker window / palette also.

8.6 Possible answers to Self-check Questions

1. To create a graphic or text style from an object
• Right-click an object whose style properties are to be saved.
• Click Styles Save style properties.
• Enable one or more of the following check boxes:
• Text
• Fill
• Outline

A graphic or text style can be created from an object by dragging the object to
the Graphic and text styles Docker window / palette also.
2. Customizing the graphic and text styles Docker window/palette means that You
can specify what types of styles graphic, artistic text, or paragraph texture
displayed in the Graphic and text styles Docker window/palette. You can also
specify that only the styles available to selected objects will display. For example,
when you select artistic text, only artistic text styles appear in the Graphic and
text styles Docker window/palette.

If you are using several styles to format a drawing, displaying only the styles
applicable to the selected object makes it easier to find the style you want. As
you select graphic objects and text objects, CorelDRAW automatically refreshes
the Docker window/palette and displays only the relevant styles.

3. The interactive blend tool combines together, two or more different effects on as
many number of objects.
