Original Sources
Load original sources to be scanned on the Automatic Document Feeder or the Platen Glass (Stage Glass).
Here is an explanation about the requirements of a loadable source.

!
Inappropriate original sources may get jammed or damaged, or result in lower scanning quality.

Allowed size
• The maximum scanning area is 303mm x 432 mm (1115/16" x 17"). When a scanned source is printed, previously specified
margins are attached to the borders, and the margins are left blank.

• The margins can be adjusted in the printer menu [4.10 Image Area].
" [HC5500 User's Manual for Printer Main Body]
• If the size of the original is larger than the paper to be printed, the exceeding part is not printed. Before scanning, an arbitrary
scale can be set in the [Reproduction size] item of the touch panel when necessary.

Loading on the Platen Glass (Stage Glass)

Sources that can be loaded

# Original source sizes

Minimum: 100mm x 148mm (315/16" x 513/16") (postcards) Maximum: 297mm x 420mm (1111/16" x 169/16") (A3) /
280mm x 432mm (11" x 17") (ledger)
# Paper weight
Less than 10kg
# Paper height (when scanning books and the like)
Up to 50mm (2") from the glass surface

!
• Heavily wrinkled, curled, or bent papers must be placed after stretching, and care must be taken not to let
them separate from the Platen Glass (Stage Glass). Separated parts become black in the scanned image.
• Originals painted with ink or erased with a correcting fluid must be placed after dried. When the Platen Glass
(Stage Glass) is not clean, the scanning results may not be satisfactory.

To obtain good scanning results

• Use originals with a smooth surface such as photographs and printed matter.
• OHP films must be loaded with a white paper on the background for clear scanning.
• If the original is too thin, the back page may appear on the image. This can be avoided by using a black paper on the back page.
• We recommend using font sizes of at least 5 points.

Originals that may not be copied

Do not use the equipment in any manner that violates the law or infringes on established copyrights, even when making copies
for personal use. Consult your local authorities for further details. In general, use discrretion and common sense.

Copy and Network Scan

There are basically two types of scanning functions that can be configured at the touch panel. Here we explain the characteristics of
such functions.

Scanning for Printing (Copy)

Configured by touching the [Copy] button of the touch panel.
Prints the scanned original in the same manner as making copies. Before scanning, it is possible to configure for duplex printing,
perform image adjustments, and also configure for "booklet" or "staple".
To perform repeated printing or when you wish to print the job later, the [Storage] function can be used to store the data and print
when desired.

For some functions such as Booklet or Staple, the HC Finisher (option) is required.

fm.book 3 ページ 2006年9月21日 木曜日 午後12時16分

Scanning for Data Storage (Network Scan)

Configured by touching the [Network Scan] button of the touch panel.
The scanned original is converted into the specified format and stored in the printer controller. Before scanning, it is possible to
perform adjustments and define the scanning method.
The stored data can be accessed and downloaded using the RISO Console by a computer connected to the network. Erasing stored
data can also be done from a computer.
Sometimes, it is advantageous to be able to save and access data at the computer without using paper media. This is also an easy
way to create electronic databases for distribution via network.

• For details concerning the operation of the RISO Console, refer to [HC5500 User's Manual for Console].
• If the administrator has configured for automatic deletion of stored data, the data are erased after a fixed period of time.
For more details, consult the administrator.

ing the image. When multiple pages are scanned, each page is stored in one file.
Job name A name can be designated to the saved job. Job names are formed by entering up to 16 char-
acters.

Owner name The owner name of the saved job can be changed. Job names are formed by entering up to
16 characters.

Security code A security code can be defined when saving. Security codes are entered as numbers with up
to 8 digits. Entering a security code is needed for downloading into computer.

We recommend setting a security code to avoid having the scanned data downloaded by someone else.

When the value is large, areas more similar to photos are also considered as "line
(text)".

Edge enhancement Performs processing to enhance the edges of areas considered as "line (text)".
The larger the value, the stronger the enhancement.

Moire elimination Performs processing to reduce the Moire effect in portions recognized as [Photo].
Larger values make it less likely for the Moire effect to appear.

Base colour level Defines the amount of reduction suffered by the background colour when the back-
(Base color level) ground is not supposed to be printed, such as in the case of colour paper.
The larger the value, the more the background colour is reduced.
