SHORT ANSWER
55. The electron transport chain begins to function when __________ or __________ are oxidized.
ANS: Photosynthesis produces glucose and oxygen, both of which are used in aerobic respiration. On
the other hand, aerobic respiration liberates water and carbon dioxide, both of which are used in
photosynthesis. These two processes produce a global balance on Earth.
58. What is the ultimate fate of the carbon atoms in a glucose molecule that goes through aerobic
respiration?
ANS: The carbon molecules are converted to carbon dioxide and breathed out.
59. In a mitochondrion, a mutation occurs such that the protein responsible for accepting electrons from
FADH2 no longer functions. How many net ATP will this mitochondrion make in aerobic respiration?
ANS: The mitochondrion will make 32 net ATP, as each of the 2 FADH2 made in the Krebs’ cycle
would have generated 2 ATP.
60. What molecule is the entry point to aerobic respiration for carbohydrates, proteins and fats?
ANS: While all three energy sources have different entry points, all 3 share the common entry
molecule of Acetyl-CoA.

Abb. 3. »Alte Hoffnung Gottes« Kleinvoigtsberg.
Umgebung. (Abb. 6.) Dr.-Ing. Bleyl schreibt darüber in seinem
tiefgelegten Garten entstandenen Kellersockel stehenden Giebel
