WRITING
PART 1
1 (sample answer)

Hi Sam,
That’s a brilliant idea! I think that a lot of students will come because Mrs Norton’s always been popular. Although it’s
nice to sit down for a meal, there’s more room in the hall in the college, so I think we should have the party there. The
restaurant is a bit too small.
For the music, let’s have something everyone can dance to. My brother’s just started a new band and he’d be happy to
play! I’ll ask him.
I can come to the meeting but I have a guitar lesson, so I will be a little late. Sorry about that.
See you!

PART 2
2 (sample answer)

Many people my age like playing video games, and lots of people like games like football or tennis. I like these too, but
my favourite game is a board game called Monopoly. Maybe you’ve played it too?
I like it because it’s exciting, even though it takes a long time to finish. Sometimes you’re sure you’re winning, but then
things change and you lose everything!
I think it’s perhaps more popular with teenagers and adults than younger children, although you can play it online now,
so they might prefer that. So, for a game you can enjoy for a few hours, try Monopoly!

3 (sample answer)

I knocked on the door and was amazed when an elderly woman opened it.
It all started when, one day, I was talking to a friend from the same apartment block. She wanted to know more about
the beautiful song she’d heard coming from my apartment as she was walking along the corridor near my door. ‘But I
wasn’t singing anything!’ I replied.
Then the next evening I heard it too, and it was wonderful. It was coming from a nearby flat, so I knocked on the door. It
turned out the elderly lady was the person singing the song! Even though she was old, she sang like a young girl. Now,
whenever there’s a party, she comes and sings for us!
