C. Learning Competencies The learners should be able to:

1. describe the different levels of biological

organization from cell to biosphere (S7LT -IIc – 3)
Given the necessary materials, 80% of the students should
D. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES be able to:

a. describe the organization of life into

complex hierarchical levels.

organization.

ENGAGE
B. Establishing a purpose for Question and Answer
the lesson
The teacher will ask the students some question that might
give the students a sort of idea that can be used to unlock
the topic.

C. Presenting
examples/instances of the
new lesson

Teacher: Okay students to

open our new topic for today
I have here 2 question that
you’re going to answer.
Ready?
1. Have you voted for your
class president? Yes, Ma’am
2. How about your class vice
president and secretary?
Yes, Ma’am, we have our class officers.
Okay because you have your
answers already, I will tell
you something.
You know what, living things,
similar to school
governing bodies, have
various levels of
organization that perform
specific functions. How Ma’am? (answer’s may vary)

How are the structures of living

things organized?

Okay, let’s find out!

EXPLORE
D. Discussing new concepts
and practicing new skills Let Us Organize!
#1 The teacher will ask the students to do the activity as she
tell them what they are going to do.
Teacher:
1. Group yourselves into (The students will group themselves according to the
teams with an equal categories given by the teacher)
number of members, you
should create at least 3
groups
2. Form a line and face the
front.
3. The objective of the game
is to arrange yourself in
ascending order based on
the following given
categories.
4. Wait for the category and
the "go" signal to be
given.
5. Once given, the fastest
group to arrange
themselves correctly will
receive a point. There will
be five rounds for this
game.
Categories:
a. birth month
b. number of siblings
c. number of friends you
have
d. first letter of your name
(alphabetical)
e. height

How was the activity? Did you

enjoy it?
So now let’s relate our activity
with our topic for today.

EXPLAIN

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY

For our next activity, kindly go

back to your respective groups. Yes, Ma’am.
Choose one representative in
your group and proceed in
front.
(3 students will approach the front.)
Here are three sets of different
images. You need to choose 1
set each then proceed to your Students will return to their group with their chosen set of
respective group. images. (different levels of organization)

Now I will give you 3 to 5

mins. to discuss with your
group about the images you Okay Ma’am!
got.

Okay, Times Up! What have

younoticed about the Students answers may vary.
pictures? Can you describe
each one of them?

Good job students! So now we

will be going to discuss the
different levels of biological
organization and their examples.

What makes an organism?

• Classification and
organization are important
to maintain a structure of
a certain system.
• The structures of living
things are also highly
organized into different
levels.

Level of Organization
(showing the students the images
of level of organisms)
This is an illustration of levels of
organization in living organisms.
Its starts from the cells up to the
biosphere.

Are you excited to know more

each one of them? Let’s go!

• Cells is the fundamental

unit of living organisms.
Without cells there is no living
organism are here.
Okay, can you give me an
example of cells? Students 1: Red blood cells
Student 2: Nerve Cells
Very good students!

Next,
• Tissues are group of
similar cells that work
together to carry out a
specific function.
Ex. Muscle Tissues

Next is
• Organ it is a system of
tissues grouped together to
perform a common
function.

Can you name some organs that

Student 1: Heart
you know?
Student 2: Brain
Good job! Student 3: Liver

Next one is,

• Organ system is a higher
level of organization that
consists of different organs
that work together to
perform related bodily
functions.
Do you know any organ system
we have in our body? Yes, Ma’am!
Student 1: Skeletal system
Very Good! Okay students, I will Student 2: Muscular system
give you a trivia about our organs Student 3: Circulatory system
systems. Our body is made up of
11 systems in total and we can be
more familiar with them using the
acronym MURDER LINCS.
It stands for:
Muscular
Urinary
Respiratory
Digestive
Endocrine
Reproductive

Lymphatic
Integumentary
Nervous
Circulatory
Skeletal

Do you get it? Yes, Ma’am!

Okay so let’s proceed, next is

• Organism is a living thing
that performs all basic life
processes. It can take in
food, get rid of waste,
respond to the
environment, and
reproduce.

Ex. Humans, Animals and Plants Student 1: Cat, Dog, Cow, Chicken
Student 2: Rose, Sunflower, Mango Tree, Banana Tree
Can you name some animals and
plants that you know?

Great job students!

After we discuss the starting point

of the level of organization, let’s
go now to the next part which is
the higher parts of the
organization.

Beyond Organismic Level

• Population is a group of
organisms of the same
species living in a
particular area.

Ex. Population of Bird, or chickens

Are there any other animals can

be considered population? Can Student 1: Population of cows, pigs etc.
you give one? Student 2: Population of lilies

Okay, good job!

After the population we also have

• Community is the sum of
populations living within a
certain area.
Ex. Farms animals, Forest
animals, Coral reefs etc.
Students: Yes, Ma’am
Do you get it?

Then followed by
• Ecosystem is the sum of
all non-living components
of the environment such as
the rocks, water, air, and
soil to living things such as
humans, plants and
animals.

Ex. Marine, Forest, Grasslands

etc.

The next to the last one is

• Biome refers to the
community of plants and
animals that occur
naturally in an area, often
sharing common
characteristics specific to
that area

Then the last one is the

• At the highest level of
organization, and thus with
the highest complexity, is
the biosphere.
• The biosphere is that part
of the Earth where living
things thrive and live. It
is the portion of the
planet that can sustain
life. The Earth has three
other spheres: the
atmosphere,
the lithosphere, and the
hydrosphere.
• Thus, it can also be said
that the biosphere is the
sum of all the ecosystems
on Earth.
Ex. Hydrosphere, Geosphere,
Atmosphere, Ecosphere.
Students: None so far Ma’am
Is there any question?
Clarification with the discussion?

ELABORATE
E. Finding practical
applications of
concepts and skills in
daily living

Teacher: Now that we are

done with our discussion let’s
have a short activity about our
discussion to know if you really
understand our lesson.
Students: (some students will raise their hands to
I need 10 students, to
volunteer)
volunteer.

Instructions: I will give you

each one a folded piece of paper
that contains the different levels Students: Okay Ma’am
of organization. You need to
arrange yourselves from its first Students: (Students will arrange themselves according to
level to the last. Then after, the level of organization then choose one of their
each of you is going to choose classmates to describe the level they have.)
one of your classmates to
describe the level you have. Student 1: Cells, Basic Unit of life
Student 2: Tissue, Group of cells
Student 3: Organ, Group of tissues that perform common
function
Ready? Student 4: Organ System, group of different organs to
perform related function
Student 5: Organism, it performs all basic life processes
Student 6: Population, group of organism in same species
that live in one area
Student 7: Community, group of different population in a
particular area
Student 8: Ecosystem, the sum of all living and non-living
organism in an area.
Student 9: Biome is an area classified according to the
species that live in that location.
Student 10: Biosphere, the sum of all ecosystems.
Great job student!
You may go back to your
respective seats now.

EXTEND

Identify the different levels of organization.

G. Evaluating learning

Teacher: So now kindly bring

out your notebooks and lets a
seatwork.

EVALUATE
A. Additional activities for Short Quiz: Provide an example for each level of
application or biological organization.
