SUBJECT : 7th WEEKLY TOOLBOX MEETING ( Unsafe Acts in Construction )

Objective :
To introduce to the workers the result of the Unsafe Acts in Construction in relation to work injuries
against to those caused by Unsafe Condition.

Introduction :
While unsafe condition as well as unsafe acts in construction are responsible for accidents, different
people and or workers treasure different things and while we are working in the Saudi Aramco Projects,
one of the aspects we treasure is Safety (apart from production and quality).Production and Quality is
useless without Safety of the workers, materials, equipment and or property.

I. Unsafe Acts :
Unsafe Acts in Construction that result to accident :
= Workers who are protected by Safety Devices remove them or fail to use them, like Safety Goggles; it
cannot protect the eyes and provide safety to the worker if he leaves the eye goggle hanging around his
neck, head and or in his pocket.
= Workers who are told about Hazards seem to ignore the warnings, like for example; training session in
how to recognize and guard against chemical hazards wont help a worker who fails to consult the material
data sheets when appropriate or disregard the safety warnings on a label of the material.
= Well trained, experienced workers seem to forget what they have learned.
= Above all, they forget that nothing is as important as safety.

Ways to control and or reduce accident in work sites :

= Improved physical inspection of the jobs
= Improved Safety-minded supervision
= Advances in engineering and designs
= Avoid and if possible eliminate horseplay at worksite
= Maximum supervision by the qualified senior craftsmen who is more knowledgeable and well
experienced of the job, remember; order/instruction is only 1% whereas supervision is 99% in order to
achieved your goal/objective.
= In the long run, it is the time and effort you spend on learning and observing the Safety Rules that will
secure for you the treasure of on-the-job safety and a safe return to your loved ones at the end of your
contractual obligations.

II. Unsafe Conditions :

Unsafe conditions seriously affects the outcome of the work on site, however; we cannot only blame to
the environment such conditions, human resource is also a contributory factor to this unsafe conditions
most especially if you are working on the ground and above the ground’
A. Rules to follow that help make everyone’s job safer while working above the ground;
= Be careful so that material will not fall from worksite.
= Use trash containers or other means to keep from falling on persons below
= Use safety equipment and practices that are required for the job, like safety belts and lanyards on tools
can prevent serious injuries.
= Don’t engage or avoid horseplay
= Never deliberately throw or sweep material from above
= Don’t work or allow others to work under obviously unsafe conditions

B. Rules to follow while working on the ground or below other employees;

= Wear the required safety equipment at all times, especially your hardhat
= Observe restricted areas were heavy work is being performed above
= Pay attention to what is going on around you, particularly when cranes and other equipment are being
used to hoist materials on the air

REMEMBER :
FOLLOWING SAFETY RULES AND USING SAFETY EQUIPMENT WILL NOT ONLY
ELIMINATE MANY ACCIDENTS BUT WILL ALSO HAVE A TENDENCY TO MAKE ANY
ACCIDENTS THAT DO OCCUR DESPITE ALL PRECAUTIONS, LESS SEVERE AND IF YOU
MAKE SAFETY PART OF YOUR DAILY ROUTINE, YOU WILL PROTECT NOT ONLY
YOURSELF BUT ALSO THOSE AROUND YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
