NARATIVE REPORT
In our perspective as students, NSTP-CWTS is an important component of
the college educational system in the Philippines. It encourages us to actively
participate in community development projects and initiatives. This helps us to
understand the importance of civic engagement and our role in contributing to the
betterment of society. We learn to identify and address community needs, fostering
a sense of social responsibility. It providesus with opportunities to engage with
local communities, understand their unique challenges and needs, and contribute to
community-based projects. This helps us develop empathy, cultural awareness, and
a deeper appreciation for diversity. It also allows us to apply our academic
knowledge in real-world settings.
This program provides us with the opportunity to interact with diverse
groups of people, including fellow students, community members, and local
government officials. This can lead to valuable networking opportunities and the
development of collaborative skills, which are essential in both academic and
professional settings. Volunteering allows us to directly contribute to the
betterment of our communities. This can provide a sense of fulfillment, purpose,
and the satisfaction of making a positive impact.
On the 18th day of April 2024, our whole class took a tour of Barangay Sitio
Samasa by dividing into two groups guided by Mr. Mario. 1 st group guided by Sir
Mario in the part of the community where there is a farm for duck, quail, and rice
crops. The second group takes a tour through the following roads from the
beginning to the end of the road where they started. During taking a tour for
observing and asking some residents of communities, We found out at the end of
the road that the that the water channel is clogged by trash, and we think this water
channel has mosquitoes living in it, which may result in dengue or diarrhea. There
are many children; we think their ages range from 3 to 7 years old. Children in
barangay Sitio Samasa are friendly. In the electric meter position, there is a plastic
bag full of trash hanging in there. If there is a short circuit starting in the electric
meter, it may start a fire easily in the whole neighborhood. Based on the interview
with our group, they answered that the land property was offered to them to build a
house because they transferred in 1980 to Sitio Samasa. During our tour of the
community, other sections of 1st Year had a feeding program; their menu was
“Champorado.” Our section helped distribute the food to the residents of the
barangay.
In 10 th day of May, Our executing of our plans in baranggay such as
volunteers to clean of the community. Our group divided into many groups to start
cleaning. There was a member cleaning in the front using a broom to collect trash
on one side of the area. And the other group is starting to clean the water channel
to remove some trash. In cleaning the water channels using tongs and a dustpan,
we collect almost two sacks of trash from the channels. After cleaning channels,
the clogging was removed, and water flowed smoothly. And other members are
collecting some of the broom to put back in the college department. They help to
pump and collect water for the residents who are washing their clothes, and they
help to carry out the washing of clothes.
