DEFINITIONS
Avian Influenza:
Means a severe contagious disease of poultry
caused by influenza virus type A, subtype H5 and N7.
Avian:
Means poultry including birds, chicken, ducks and geese.
Diagnosis:
Means detection of sick or dead or suspected poultry to be
infected with avian influenza virus by using laboratory
methodologies together with history inquiriesfrom
related persons and clinical signs observation.
Laboratory Biosafety:
Means a laboratory established with an appropriate system of
construction, operation and examination as well as a safety
operational procedures.
DIAGNOSIS
Avian influenza diagnostic methods inlaboratory include
virology, immunology and biomolecular which are indicated in
the manual of diagnostic tests and vaccines.

FROM LIVE POULTRY:
PRINCIPLE:
The basis of the HI assay is that antibodies to influenza virus will
prevent attachment of the virus to red blood cells. Therefore
hemagglutination is inhibited when antibodies are present. The
highest dilution of serum that prevents hemagglutination is called
the HI titer of the serum.
