Four-channel wideband digital repeater application

to market much faster and more cost-

effectively than previously possible. Figure 1
shows how the TSW4100 can amplify three
channels (each 5-MHz wide) and one channel
(10-MHz wide) without interfering with or
amplifying other channels in the spectrum.
You can use the TSW4100 to rapidly implement
a proof-of-concept design of a repeater and
significantly reduce time to market. In addition,
the TSW4100 demo kit, complete with digital
filter design software, can cut the time for
developing precision repeater signal filters by a
factor of 10 over analog filter design techniques.

At the heart of the TSW4100 demonstration

kit is TI’s GC5016 digital upconverter (DUC)/
digital downconverter (DDC), a digital signal
processing device designed for high-speed, The TSW4100 digital filter configuration tool shortens development time

base stations and wideband digital repeaters.
The GC5016 device’s inherent flexibility allows
for other architecture options because it is also
configurable to implement one- or two-channel
digital repeaters, with reduced BOM costs,
should either configuration be more
appropriate to your target application. In
addition, the TSW4100 demonstration kit
features TI’s high-performance analog
solutions, including the ADS5545 14-bit,
170-MSPS analog-to-digital converter (ADC),
the DAC5688 dual 16-bit, 800-MSPS
interpolating digital-to-analog converter (DAC),
and the CDCM7005 clock generation and
distribution device.

Digital filter configuration tool

Unlike the characteristics of analog signal
filters, which cannot be altered after
manufacture, the parameters of digital filtering
engines on the TSW4100 are programmable
and easily reconfigurable through the demo
kit’s PC-based software tool. You can easily
change parameters like channel bandwidth
and gain, as well as signal ripple, shape and
other functions, by simply modifying an entry
in the filter configuration tool’s graphical user
interface (GUI).

The performance of repeaters based on analog

filtering devices typically requires a great
deal of fine-tuning and manipulation in the

performance levels. On the other hand, the
operating characteristics of digital filtering
devices are easily programmable. The ability
to set the performance parameters of digital
filters on the GC5016, through a software GUI,
makes every TSW4100’s digital filtering
performance completely repeatable and
predictable. Establishing the performance
parameters of the TSW4100’s digital filters
typically takes as little as one-tenth the time
normally devoted to fine-tuning the
performance of comparable analog filters.

Because of the precision with which you can

configure digital filters, you can also perfectly
match the filters on wireless infrastructure
repeaters based on the TSW4100 architecture
to each other. In addition, the performance of
digital filters in repeater systems is completely
deterministic, ensuring more efficient and less
complex system-level manufacturing processes.
The time to test a repeater system with digital
filters is typically a fraction of what is required
to test, fine-tune and re-test a repeater system
featuring analog filtering technology.
