Eradicating Misconception
The emergence of social media shows that billions of users are engaging. Through
the constantly changing world, the creation has been a platform in socializing and
establishing new relationship online. It has been a main vehicle of relaying information in
local to international lenses as this remain as popular among others worldwide.
By 2010, mental health professionals began to realize that there are changes of
behavior of young people. They are more stressed and it tend to arise from the
accumulation of various information from various online platforms that gradually leads to
not filtering the must and do not.
Internet trolls tend to claim truth as if it actually existed or happened. On the
contrary, credible sources are overshadowed by false-truth makers. However, the ongoing
trend became a part of the culture and mindset of the teenagers through the acceptance of
false information. This proliferation of fake news has been a growing problem in the
Philippines via social media – where content is not immediately verifiable.
“Think of narratives as a device for connecting the dots, a way of mapping our
experience of the world. This process of connecting the dots has never been immune from
bias or distortion,” said by the French academic Jean Baudrillard.
It has been seen that internet has a huge implication in immersing people in their
own realities. Moreover, the constant battle of attention users can get whatever information
they preferred to have, and with the existence of incentives, influencers drives the
audiences to produce worst information dissemination.
As today’s generation are heavily relying on what is in social media over the reality,
illiteracy of using the platform would likely occur. While it is early, parents are encouraged
to get the attention of their children or lose the ability to teach them how to discern truth.
