To create clear toner prints, use the VDP tab on the fiery through the FreeForm application tools.

FreeForm creates clear coat prints by merging two files together: one for the clear coat, and the other
for the original file. This guide will use the following files below Form_logo_pearl.pdf (clear coat form)

Saving a Clear Coat Form

1. Either import or print the Form_logo_pearl.pdf file to the hold queue hold queue of Command
WorkStation and open the Job Properties for that job. If printing from a desktop open the Fiery fea-
tures from the driver, and open Full Properties.

2. Open the VDP tab. In this tab a Master Form needs to be created.
3. Under the FreeForm section, choose a number in which the clear coat form will be saved. You can either
choose a new slot that’s “Not Created” or re-write over an existing form. In this case we have chosen 12.

4. When chosen, click “Print.” (Note: This does not print the file, it just creates the form.)

Merging Clear Coat Form with Document

1. Either import or print the Logo_pearl.pdf file to the hold queue hold queue of Command WorkStation
and open the Job Properties for that job. If printing from a desktop open the Fiery features from the
driver on the desktop, and open Full Properties.

2. In the VDP tab in the FreeForm section, merge the previous form saved to the current document. Make
sure “Create Master” is None. In the “Use Master” drop-down, choose the existing file form.

3. Make sure you select “Use FreeForm as Clear Coat.”

4. Click “Print.” The two files should merge together and create one document with clear coat.
Using Clear Coat with FreeForm – Two-Pass Option
Below are step-by-step instructions to print clear coat using FreeForm with the two-pass method. We’ll
use different files for this job to highlight the strength of the two-pass clear coat. When saving forms into
the server, the form doesn’t save into the Register Form Composition file on the engine. Therefore, it’s
unable to be seen from the engine control console. For a file to be printed two-pass, the form must first be
saved in the Register Form Composition in engine for it to be retrieved for two-pass method.

Saving Forms into Engine for the Two-Pass Option

1. Repeat steps 1-4 of Saving Clear Coat Form using Form_honey.pdf this will save the form as a
master.

2. Either import or print the Honey.pdf file to the hold queue hold queue of Command WorkStation
and open the Job Properties for that job. If printing from a desktop open the Fiery features from the
driver on the desktop, and open Full Properties.
3. Under the Finishing tab, choose “Two Pass,” and in the “Clear Coat Form Name,”
type a name that will be saved for that form (this can be any name.) This name
will be saved in the engine for future use.

4. Under the VDP tab, select “Use FreeForm as Clear Coat.” Choose the Form_honey.pdf that
was created earlier from the “Use Master” drop down.

5. Choose file “Print.” This will print the Honey.pdf document without clear coat as clear coat will be
applied on the second pass and the form will be saved to the engine. Now the Form_honey.pdf
has been saved in the engine control console under the name Honeycomb that was previously
created.
Printing Two-Pass from the Engine

1. Retrieve a copy of the Honey.pdf file that was printed.

2. Place prints in the Stack Bypass and register media properties. (You can use the drawer or paper
deck if preferred.)

3. In the control console, scroll to the “Coating” tab. (Use the arrow to scroll to next screen.)

7. Before coating, make sure you select the correct paper source (In this case it’s the
Stack Bypass.) Then select “Start Coating.” The Honeycomb form will be imaged with
clear toner on the pre-printed document.
