Project Name Project02 - Cloud Computing

Project outline

Pop’s Paper Company is currently facing significant challenges in managing its rapidly expanding data
storage needs, leading to inefficiencies and increased operational costs. Additionally, the existing on-
premise IT infrastructure is struggling to keep up with the demand for scalable and flexible
computing resources. This has resulted in decreased productivity and potential data security
vulnerabilities as the company grows, while most of the IT department has run away. You are a new
hire and have been put in charge of the move to Azure. You need to find out what needs to be done
and explain to the Chief Technology Officer your recommendations and why.

Project description/detail

In the introduction, describe the current situation, provide an overview of your understanding, and
outline the questions and actions you plan to take. Include considerations on the selection of an
appropriate cloud service model (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) based on the company's needs and how you plan
to synchronize users on Azure with the old on-premises machines. List assumptions and expected
challenges.

In the main part, dive into the answers to the following questions to help solve the company's
problems:

 What infrastructure exists currently?

The goal is to find out what servers will need to be created in the cloud.
 What are the current security vulnerabilities in cloud computing architecture?
The goal is to identify existing vulnerabilities and security loopholes.
 What security techniques are used to prevent breaches and unauthorized access to the cloud
network?
The goal is to evaluate the effectiveness of current cloud security methods.
 Which aspect of cloud computing security needs improvement?
The goal is to pinpoint areas for enhancement.
 What are the benefits and potential pitfalls of moving all services and systems to the cloud?
The goal is to weigh the pros and cons of cloud-hosted services.

Discuss which cloud service model (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) would be most appropriate for the company’s
needs and why. This should consider factors such as scalability, management overhead, and
customization capabilities.

Explore what the company can use to synchronize the users on the existing on-premises machines,
ensuring seamless integration and transition to the cloud. Detail the expected benefits and any
potential challenges this integration may pose.
In the Solutions section, show a practical understanding and application of cloud concepts with a
focus on Azure cloud services to address the company's problem using screenshots of the setup. This
section should now also include:

Describe how the selected service model will be implemented, focusing on Azure services. Provide
specific examples of Azure solutions that fit within the chosen model and how they address the
company’s requirements.

Practical exploration of how you would address the answers you’ve found to the questions you asked
earlier, showing screenshots of your steps/setups/calculations – use the tasks that you did in CCF to
create a cohesive explanation.

Ensure configurations/setups are explained clearly and support your claims with relevant
screenshots, avoiding irrelevant ones. Justify your choices with solid reasoning, demonstrating a
deep understanding of all described elements. Cite relevant sources.

The summary should highlight the main points of your work, drawing precise conclusions and
reflections that demonstrate a deep understanding of the project, including implications and
recommendations. Clarify assumptions and challenges overcome.

Your reference list should show exceptional research and writing, incorporating a broad range of
high-quality sources, including vendor-specific information, academic sources, and books. Use
quotations and citations appropriately and ensure sources support the document's claims. Show
exceptional research according to the rubric.

Possible resources required

 Windows / MacOS /Linux desktop

 Web browser
 Azure with a valid subscription
 Document Processor

Additional notes

 This is a mix of theory and practical work.

 You can make up the servers and things that you think an expanding paper company would
need, add these to your assumptions.
 Plan your research so that you don’t use up your credits on your Azure subscription. Make
sure that you delete your resources as soon as you’ve used them.
 Remember, you must save your Student Subscription credits for Year 2, so delete your
resources.
