Purpose of the Document

This document shows how to define the maximum length of the coaxial cables for
SkyEdge II-c CPEs.

Overview
For the SkyEdge II-c CPE to effectively communicate with the antenna, the coaxial
cable length should not exceed the maximum recommended limit. The calculation
results are made for three typical cable types (RG6, RG11, and RG11 Improved):
 RG-6 with DC resistance(conductor + shield) assumption of 0.118 [Ω/m]
 RG-11 with DC resistance(conductor + shield) assumption of 0.052 [Ω/m]
 RG-11 Improved with DC resistance (conductor + shield) assumption of
0.018 [Ω/m]
The calculations are based on the following criteria:
 CPE type
 PSU Type (Desktop, DC Inserter, Power Box, PS Embedded, or Dual BS
Embedded)
 ODU (BUC) output power
 Distance between the CPE and antenna

Chapter 2: Defining the Maximum Cable Length
Before defining the maximum recommended cable length, verify that you have the
following parameters:
 CPE type
 Power Supply type (PSU)
 ODU (BUC) output power
 Cable type (RG6, RG 11, or RG 11 Improved) being used
 Distance between VSAT and antenna (cable length)
For example, to define the maximum cable length:
 If the distance between the Gemini CPE and antenna is 50 meters, the PSU type
is Power Box, the BUC being used is Ku 2W BUC Series, and you are using RG11
cable, the maximum recommended cable length is 100 meters. The installation
process can proceed as planned.
