Subject Title : Power Electronics / 19UEEPC501 Title : Fundamentals/Unit4
This unit deals with the types of inverters such as voltage source inverter and current source inverter. Also
the AC voltage controllers and cycloconverter and its design are also discussed.
UNIT IV – INVERTERS AND AC-AC CONVERTERS
PART A
1. Why half wave AC voltage regulator (not used) preferred for inductive loads? U

(ii) Describe the working of three phase voltage source inverter in 180 degree conduction 8
mode with neat waveforms.
2.i) A single phase full wave AC voltage converter has an input voltage of 230 V, 50 Hz and 8 S
it is feeding a resistance load of 10 ohms. If firing angle of thyristors in 110 degree, find
the output. RMS voltage input power factor and average current of thyristors.
2.ii) Discuss in detail about the functioning of three phase voltage source inverter in 120° 8 U
operation mode.
3.i) Write a short note on Three phase star connected AC to AC voltage controllers. 8 U
