gas emissions have further accelerated the phenomenon.
• Higher temperatures increase moisture in the atmosphere, which can potentially lead
to more intense precipitation events. The UAE has seen a significant increase in
average temperatures, which is likely influenced by global warming.

• NASA has announced the discovery of a potentially habitable Earth-sized exoplanet
named Glise 12b, located just 40 light years away from Earth, making it one of the
closest known potentially habitable planets to our solar system.
• Gliese 12b has an average surface temperature of 42 degrees Celsius, lower than
most of the roughly 5,000 or so exoplanets discovered so far. This exoplanet is
slightly smaller than Earth and its size is similar to Venus.
• Gliese 12B is a super-Earth exoplanet that orbits the M-type (red dwarf) star, Gliese
12, every 12 days . This star has a total of seven planets, which are probably rocky
with being almost the size of Earth.
• The three planets orbiting Gliese 12 fall within the habitable zone (the distance from

• The star lacks metals, suggesting that it may have a weak magnetic field compared
to Earth and a volcanic field that may be helpful in maintaining the atmosphere of
Glise 12B.

include magnetic robots flying on a three-layer film track to reduce friction from dust
on the moon's surface.
• Vehicles will be mounted on these robots and will run at a speed of about 1.61
kilometers per hour. They could deliver about 100 tons of material daily to NASA's
future lunar base .
• FLOAT will serve primarily as a transportation service for areas where astronauts
are active, carrying lunar soil and other materials to the surface of the moon.

55 Cankri E Planet
• Recently, astronomers have detected rocky planets with atmospheres beyond our
solar system. It is an exoplanet also known as Janssen and is a super-Earth.
• The planet is located in our galaxy about 41 light-years away from Earth, in the
constellation of Cancer. It is a rocky planet much larger than Earth but smaller than
Neptune.
• It orbits very close to a slightly lower mass and dimmer star than our Sun, completing
one orbit every 18 hours. It has a mass about 8.8 times more than Earth, with a
diameter almost twice that of our planet.
• It orbits its star at one-25th of the distance between Mercury, the innermost planet in
our solar system, and the Sun. As a result, its surface temperature is about 3,140
degrees Fahrenheit.
• The planet is probably surrounded by tides, meaning that only one part of it is always
facing its star, just as the Moon faces toward Earth. Four other planets, all of which
are gaseous planets, are known to orbit their host star.

streams of stars named 'Shiva' and 'Shakti'.
• Formed about 12 billion years ago, these celestial structures are among the earliest
to contribute to the formation of our galaxy.
• These ancient structures have been discovered under the leadership of Kyathi
Malhan of the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy (MPIA) in Heidelberg, Germany.

galaxy. Upon imagining the orbits of these stars, two new structures emerged, which
were different from their specific chemical composition. Researchers named him
'Shakti' and 'Shiva'.
• Each group carries the mass of about 10 million suns. It has stars aged between 12
and 13 billion years orbiting in remarkably similar orbits and structures.

ISRO's reusable launch vehicle 'Pushpak'

• ISRO completed the third reusable launch vehicle landing experiment of its wing
vehicle 'Pushpak' at the Aeronautical Test Range (ATR) in Chitradurga, Karnataka.
• Among ISRO's 3-stage rockets, the lowest stage solid fuel/GSLV has 4 liquid strap-
on boosters; The second stage has a liquid fuel-powered Vikas engine; And the third
and top stage has a cryogenic engine, which uses liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen.
• In the 4-stage PSLV, the first stage has a solid fuel using motor with six solid fuel
strap-on boosters, the second stage has the Vikas engine, the third stage again has a
solid-fueled motor and the fourth stage has two liquid engines.
• The RLV being built by ISRO has only two stages to take the vehicle into orbit. After
the fuel is exhausted in the first stage, the vehicle will release it and proceed with
the second stage. The first stage will re-enter the atmosphere and land autonomously
at a predetermined location.
Significance of RLV:

• Low lift-to-drag (L/D) ratio: In aerodynamics, the L/D ratio is the lift generated by
an aircraft, divided by the aerodynamic drag that occurs while moving in the air.
• The use of two-stage RLVs can reduce the cost of launch by about 80% of the current
cost.
• It has the capability to serve as the base for advanced technologies such as hypersonic
flight, autonomous landing, return flight experiments, powered cruise flight and air-
breathing propulsion systems.
• The construction of RLV will ensure that the country is not left behind in critical
scientific and strategic areas and will also help ISRO commercially.

launching satellites weighing about 500 kg into a 500-km orbit.
• A small space manufacturing park will also come up near the space port at
Kulasekarapattinam. At present, ISRO has a space station Satish Dhawan Space
Center in Sriharikota, it was established in the year 1971.
Why Kulasekarapattinam?

• Proximity to the beach: Kulasekarapattinam's proximity to the sea makes it an ideal

location to launch the rocket 'straight south'.
• Proximity to the equator: Kulasekarapattinam has been chosen as a space station due
to its proximity to the equator, just like the Satish Dhawan Space Centre. The rocket
launch center should be on the east coast and near the equator.
• Ease of Transportation/Operations: ISRO has a liquid propulsion systems centre at
Mahendragiri in Tirunelveli district where the second and fourth stage engines for
PSLV are assembled. Instead of moving the second and fourth stage engines from
Mahendragiri to Sriharikota, it would be easier to shift them to the launch pad if
these were built at Kulasekarapattinam.
