Statement of Purpose

I wish to apply for the graduate program to study your institution. I believe that my
excellent academic record in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and my service work
make me a good candidate for the scholarship. I am 30 years old with strong desire to
be an expert in computer science . I caught the vision in Junior Secondary school,
pursued it to university with the view of practicing it after graduation. I believe my
chosen profession will enable me to fulfill all of my desires to help others, to continue
to expand my knowledge and skills. In my undergraduate I was able to use my skills
in Data science and Machine learning to analyse effects of social media on student
academic performances with help of python programming language and R. I had a
part-time job with NGO in Kaduna as an ICT/Secretary updating NGO websites and
lot more. In 2021, I work with consultancy firm and construction company managing
their websites, social media platform and analyze companies data. I have seen how
data is generated every day and how useful it is in making decisions.
Country Benefit
I am of the view that the development of a country is the obligations of its
citizenry.One of the indices by which a nation’s growth and advancement can be
measured is by technological endowment and penetration, not by the level of her
natural and human resources only. The potential of safety and environment, security
challenges in the country is lack of access and utilization of Data. I will launch an
advocacy program in order to sensitized the rural areas on how to maximize use of
broadband network to give a quick information to the authority in real time. The
analysis of this large pools of data can provide relevant and timely insights to support
decision making process. My nation must make progress in the aspect of this digital
age. “What have I gain if don’t serve my nation?”.
The current crude price crisis situation, many large-scale projects are at risk and oil
companies are looking at new ways to improve their margin costs and reduce the
uncertainty of their investments – particularly through big data and data science
driven solutions. I will build on my undergraduate research work on data science and
machine learning to identification of big data sources and their current and potential
use, economical, social, ethical, and legal impacts, as well as an assessment of the
current status of big data in the oil and gas sector.
Future Career Plan
I believe data is one of the greatest fuel in the 21st century that could be used for the
common good of all when harness. My research will not only be informative, but also
provide a timely assessment of the field and motivate additional research in big data
relevant to the oil and gas domain. By that time, I would have gotten sufficient
technical know-how and conducted high-quality research on the impact of data and
the society. The programme will expand my horizon in aspect of designing and
developing algorithms for analyzing intelligence, organizing prudent data and
simulation with less effort as I submit to the training I will receive from the
institution.Long-term Plan
My exposure in the overseas program will help me build a strong data generation and
data analytic business models and development of data-driven algorithms for
modeling wave propagation in subsurface.
I aspire to collaborate with other expert to design efficient machine learning
algorithms that will bring a success stories of Big data. We can also form a Non
Government Organization that will help to reduce the resistance to data driven models.
Behind my achievement is a strong desire to learn. Philosophy has taught me to
evaluate life and my experience. It’s through that I hope to become an instrumental
member of society, using all of my energy to bring about constructive change and
create a path to the ‘good life”, not only for myself but also for others.
