PLANETARY GEAR(S)—TERMINOLOGY

Foreword—This Document has not changed other than to put it into the new SAE Technical Standards Board
Format.

1. Scope—Figures 1 to 4 illustrate in simplified form the more common planetary gear arrangements in order to
establish applicable terminology. Gear ratio is the numerical ratio of input to output speed.

2. References—There are no referenced publications specified herein.
