Description

The CHALLENGER LITE System consists of a transmitter and the Challenger

terminal and allows operating a computer from a distance of max. 200m (650ft).
In addition, a local operator station can be connected at the transmitter. Operation is
optional local or remote.

The monitor, keyboard and mouse signals are transferred via category 5 (or higher)
cables. The feature of individual video tuning compensates different cable qualities
and lengths so that the user has always available an optimum picture.
We recommend CAT7-cable.

In addition to the monitor, keyboard and mouse information, the system can transfer
- as option - also a RS232 interface and - as option - audiodata via the datacable.
As additional option we can integrate the delayfunktion who compensate timedelays of
the used Datacable.

System-Componenten:

Transmitter unit Rack 42 Lite / Rack 84 Lite

Receiver unit CHALLENGER 15/18/21 Lite
Multicable to connect Video/Keyboard/Mouse PS/2

System operation/setting

IVT - Individual Video Tuning

The CHALLENGER 15/18/21 Lite-system allows adapting videos. This functionality

can be used by the user to compensate different cable qualities and lengths. Individual
execution of this function allows setting the subjective perception of the individual as a
standard for a good picture.

Adaptation is made via the keyboard of the CHALLENGER 15/18/21 Lite.

The system covers the range from 10 - 200m (33 - 560ft); adaptation can be made in
2m-steps (6,5ft).

The Challenger 15/18/21 Lite System provide to select the used cabletype, which take
account of this circumstance. For video adaptation, select the cabletype, which
corresponds to the cable type used in most cases.

Optional you can compensate timedelays from the datacable with the delayfunktion.

When you start up the system first time, you see at the display a menu for easyer
select the IVT-modus. When you don’t want the menu at all systemstarts, you can

Notes for setting the IVT

The above steps should be understood to be reference values. As the quality of a

video picture depends both on the monitor, the graphic card and the transfer cable it is
possible that you will achieve the subjectively best picture with the setting for 100m
(330ft) despite a cable length of, for instance, 80m (260ft).
To guarantee the best picturequality we recommend a max. datacablelength of 150m
(500ft). At longer distances you get poor picturequality.

When you not agree with picturequality after IVT setting you can make a
fineadjustement additional:

- Press „CTRL + NUM“ and select „SYS INFO“ with the cursor keys.
- Press „CTRL + F10“.
- Enter „SERVICE“ and „3223“ for login.
- Select „Video Adjust“.
- Adjust the setting „gain“ until you have best picturequality.
- Save the settings with „F1“.

This setting are only valid for the previous done IVT-adjustment. When you change
the IVT-adjustment maybe you have to repeat the settings top described. You´ll get a
window with note about this before next IVT-adjustment.

Try the best setting for your application.

If your monitor remains black, please check whether the set resolution and refreshing
rate of the graphic card is supported by the Challenger Lite. It is possible that this
ranges are crossed.

Resolutions

The following cable lengths and resolutions achieve good picture qualities:

Length of
Challenger Lite Resolution Refreshing rate
datacable
15“ 150m / (500ft) 1024 x 768 60 Hz
18“ 100m / (330ft) 1280 x 1024 60 Hz
21“ 50m / (165ft) 1600 x 1200 60 Hz

This table gives recommendations with use of the delayfunction.

Automatic change-over

The CHALLENGER 15/18/21 Lite-system allows the optional operation of the

computer from both work stations (lokal and CHALLENGER 15/18/21 Lite).

Both keyboards and mouse/TB are disconnected in the basic state. As soon as an
input is made via the keyboard or mouse/TB the keyboard/mouse/TB of the other
station are blocked.

If no operation is made for a time-out of approx. 1 s, the system is released again.

The display of the CHALLENGER 15/18/21 Lite and the connected monitors show the
picture of the computer simultaneously.

Defining the Time Out

With this settings you define the delay time for the automatic switch between the local
and the remote console. With this settings you can prevent undesired access of the
inactive console. This settings stay active unless at the active console no Keyboard /
Mouse action can be mentioned. The other console can have access to the system
again, after the in this chapter defined time-out after the last keyboard / mouse action
has exceeded.

Call Function Menu for setting Timeout:

hold the Control-key.

[ Strg / Control / Control ]

pressed and actuate the key

[ Num / Num / Num ].

The Function Menu mode is activated as soon as both keys are released and you see
a menu at the display.

Move the cursor to the entry Config or confirm with

and press

Then the Config-Menu will open.

MANUAL CHALLENGER LITE EN REV.1.9.DOC T.E. 8

Select the System Config with cursor up/cursor down and then confirm with

button.

Move the cursor to the entry Timeout.

By entering a value in the range of 1 to 90 seconds you can define the delay time.

For saving the settings and closing the menu press F1.

Hold function

The CHALLENGER 15/18/21 Lite- system allows that either the local or the remote
(CHALLENGER 15/18/21 Lite) work station to operate the computer exclusively. Thus
it is prevented that the system isolates the other work station after the pre-set time-out
of approx. 1 s.

When you hold the key

[ Strg / Control / Control ]

pressed and actuate the key

[ Druck / Print / Impr ècran ]

the hold function is activated. The activated mode is indicated by flashing the
LED [ Rollen / Scroll Lock / Arrêt Dêfil ] at both keyboards.
The releasing station can thus operate the computer exclusively.

By pressing the key [ Strg / Control / Control ] and actuate the

key [ Druck / Print / Impr ècran] the hold function is deactivated and the
LED [ Rollen / Scroll Lock / Arrêt Dêfil ] at the keyboard extinguish.
