“Walang Maiiwan”

By: Kara David

In life, there is only one devastating event that we cannot escape, and that is the world being
balanced. This documentary is composed of the lives of the poor and mostly the journey of the
little ones. Children that have an unimaginable path they take to their daily lives just to learn the
peak of education. Parents that cannot do anything because of the position they’re in. Dreams
that are covered by chains they cannot break. But as they drowned to the depth of the void, the
only thing they know is no one must be left behind. The kind of life that a person lives is the
heaviest problem that an individual can achieve and must be noticed by the government.

From this documentary, the hardest part of being alive is not living but surviving. Because of the
world being more balanced, it is becoming more unfair. A society cannot develop with a system
and principle, meaning to say there are populations that we must follow to be able to grow. In
simple terms, we cannot change the system of the classes that we are living in, the poor and the
rich. And it is very devastating and depressing to see people locked in a system that has a low
percentage of making a change. Low but not zero we say, but for these people it is almost
impossible because of their environment and living. But the best part is we still can see the
heart and blood of being a Filipino and as a human. These youths are already in the phase of
choosing the hardest decision in their life, dreams or survival and family? I am very shocked and
at the same time guilty as a student, because seeing these types of documentaries gives us
what life really tastes like. But hearing the phrase “Walang Maiiwan” gives me goosebumps and
mixed emotions. Teachers that are doing their best for the sake of the future and also for the
service that they promise. It’s kinda funny that these teachers are also becoming a doctor and a
rider at the same time. And for watching this documentary, I am very thankful for the people like
Kara David who get involved doing such activities and learn many different paths of different
people. A video that has great purpose and somehow we hope it can make a difference.

To sum up all, we can see that we are living in a cycle that is full of surprises and sufferings. But
of course, we people don’t care, even the waves are bigger than us, the rivers and ocean are
deeper than us, we will stand as long as we are together and with hope. Like the people in the
documentary, different people, dreams, paths, they will not break and no one will be left behind.
