Chapter 2 : Compatibility Guide Overview

This OnGuard Compatibility Guide contains compatibility information for OnGuard 8.2, as well as the latest support updates
for OnGuard 8.0 and OnGuard 8.1.
In this guide you will find:
• Compatibility Charts, which summarize the versions of LenelS2 and third-party products that can be used with each
supported OnGuard version and service update
• OnGuard product life cycle information, which describes the currently supported versions of the OnGuard software
Prior to OnGuard 8.2, the Compatibility Charts were available separately. The Compatibility Charts for supported versions have
now been combined into one convenient Compatibility Guide.

Throughout the guide, support will be indicated as follows:
• Supported: Indicates the solution is supported. The version listed was used at the time of validation but patches/
service updates after that are also supported unless otherwise specified. For hardware, a specific driver and/or
firmware to be used may be listed.

Disclaimer:
OnGuard has been tested and found compatible with the virtual environments specified above. LenelS2 has a high level
of confidence that OnGuard will perform in most virtual environments. However, LenelS2 does not test or certify OnGuard
for any virtual environment other than as listed above. LenelS2 Technical Support and Engineering is unable to
troubleshoot any virtual environment-specific problem as we have no knowledge of the manufacturer and their product if the
virtual environment is not on the list below. LenelS2 Technical Support and Engineering will assist with any OnGuard specific
issue as long as it is determined that the problem is not specific to a non-tested / non-certified virtual environment.
Notes:
• LNVR has been certified as a virtual machine instance running on VMware ESXi hypervisors. In tested scenarios the
server hosts were utilizing direct connections via fibre-channel HBA out to a SAN. Important: To be deployed in a
supported LenelS2 configuration, a virtual LNVR must have virtual storage disks that are thick-provisioned on a
dedicated array. A ‘dedicated array’ in this case means no other virtual machines can be deployed on (or be permitted
to write to) the specific array where those storage drives of the LNVR reside. Deploying a second virtual instance of
LNVR would require defining yet another separate array on the SAN, the intent is to create a one-to-one relationship
between each LNVR instance and its own array. By following this requirement, the potential high risk for developing
storage contention and latency is mitigated. When defining an array on the SAN to hold LNVR storage drives, LenelS2
recommends minimally five physical drives in a RAID5 configuration.

Environment Support
Note: The requirement to have a separate array for each virtual LNVR instance only applies to the storage drives of the
LNVR. If so desired the OS (system drive) of the LNVR instance can be deployed in the more traditional manner, with
several other virtual machines located for example on a larger RAID10 array. Additionally, LenelS2 recommends that
each virtual LNVR instance be mapped to its own physical NIC on the host. This is due to the typically high-bandwidth
utilization of video streams. In all test scenarios, virtual LNVR instances were configured with a virtual CPU having
minimally four cores and x64 Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 running with 8GB of RAM.
• Virtual platforms are NOT supported with video viewing clients.
• VMotion, High Availability and Fault Tolerance are supported, however Fault Tolerance is not recommended at this
time based upon the mandatory single core limit for current VMware versions.
• The software-based license is limited to only VMware ESX & ESXi Servers and also to a standard hosted system (non-
VMware).

authenticate their OnGuard User Account thru Azure AD. 3rd Party Authentication license is required.

Client Support
Chapter 4 : Client Support

OnGuard® browser-based client applications allow browser access to the OnGuard system for specific credentialing and
monitoring functionality. Browser clients include:
• OnGuard Access Manager is a browser-based application that allows OnGuard users to review access requests made
in OnGuard Cardholder Self Service and assign the appropriate access levels, place requests on hold, or deny requests.
• LenelS2 Console is a browser-based application designed to launch OnGuard browser-based and desktop (Windows)
applications as well as third-party applications and websites. LenelS2 Console consists of cards representing licensed
and installed desktop and browser-based applications. Cards for OnGuard applications are added to LenelS2 Console
when OnGuard is installed, or when the application is licensed and installed if that occurs after OnGuard is installed.
• OnGuard Credentials is an easy-to-use web-based cardholder management client designed to allow many of your
OnGuard users to have the ability to manage the basic properties of a cardholder from an 'installation-free'
workstation. Credentials allows management of the Personal Details (along with User-defined pages and fields), Badge,
and Access Level assignment components of a cardholder record, as well as directly issuing a mobile credential or
printing a badge to an OnGuard workstation.
• OnGuard Monitor is an easy-to-use browser-based lightweight alarm, event, and video management client designed to
provide OnGuard users with the ability to view and manage alarms from an 'installation-free' workstation. OnGuard
Monitor enables viewing live and historical events, responding to alarms, verification of cardholder with photos as
access is granted, viewing of hardware tree, and limited control of LenelS2 access hardware. It also allows viewing of
live and recorded video from the LenelS2 NVR, enhancing situational awareness.
• OnGuard Reports is a browser-based application that enables report execution and scheduling on various desktop and
mobile devices. An optional "OnGuard Advanced Reporting" license allows customization of reports. The OnGuard
Reports client uses OnGuard permissions and segmentation, and supports per-report permissions. Reports can be
scheduled in multiple formats including print, PDF, email, and csv.
• OnGuard Surveillance is an easy-to-use browser-based lightweight video viewing client designed to allow many of
your OnGuard users to have the ability to place cameras on a layout and view live and recorded video from an
'installation-free' workstation.
• OnGuard Users is a browser-based component that can be used to manage users in the OnGuard environment. With
OnGuard Users, system administrators can set password policies to create a more secure login process for OnGuard.
• OnGuard Visitor is a browser-based front desk component that allows front desk attendants to sign visitors in or out,
view upcoming visits, search for visitors, and notify hosts and visitors. It does not currently support all functionality
available in prior versions. Customers requiring support of the following functions should use our prior IDVM Front Desk
Clients: Scan and Capture of ID’s, Customization of Visitor Badges and Access per Visitor, and Bulk Visitor Enrollment.
One other client is LenelS2 Magic Monitor. LenelS2 Magic Monitor PLUS software provides an integrated monitoring, control,
and operations workstation for access control and video surveillance. This powerful application integrates data from a wide
variety of sources, including OnGuard, LenelS2 NVR (LNVR), and Milestone XProtect®. It can simultaneously integrate LenelS2
NetBox™ access control and VR™ and VRx™ video. Flexible layouts can also contain information from web sources, as well as
integrated support for traffic and weather feeds.

Modules are optional browser-based applications that work with Client browser-based applications. Modules include:
• OnGuard Cardholder Self Service (CSS) is an optional module for OnGuard that allows cardholders to use a web
interface to see recent access denials, request access, schedule visits, and change their badge PIN. Designated
approvers then get notified and/or see a list of requests via the separate OnGuard Access Manager web interface, from
which requests can be granted, denied, or held. The cardholder is then automatically notified of the action taken.
Optionally, Cardholders can also see customized lists of readers and access levels for which they can request access.
Compatible with current web browsers on computers and tablet devices. Not recommended for smartphones and
other small screen devices. New OnGuard module software license file is required and will be provided.
• OnGuard WATCH (Web Access, Trending, and Comprehensive Health) is an optional module for OnGuard that allows
monitoring of the servers in an OnGuard system (including OnGuard, Database, and Communications Servers), as well
as activity in user defined areas. OnGuard WATCH provides server health and status monitoring, as well as useful
statistics and charts covering system counts, alarm counts, etc. Compatible with current web browsers on computers

• OnGuard Visitor Self Service (VSS) is an iPad app add-on allows the visitor to sign-in and sign-out their visit

• OnGuard Policies is an optional module that helps assess, develop and enforce access and security policies. Policies
and rules are defined based on cardholder attributes, and related OnGuard Access levels. Access levels may be required
or prohibited based on policy. This OnGuard module provides a responsive browser-based user interface - no client
installation is required. NOTE: OnGuard Policies is not currently supported with Oracle Database. OnGuard Policies can
be installed on an OnGuard Enterprise system, but Policies data does not propagate between OnGuard Enterprise

Chapter 8 : BlueDiamond Support

The BlueDiamond ecosystem consists of the following components:
• BlueDiamond™ readers and credentials allow Apple® and Android® phones/devices to be used as credentials for your
OnGuard system. The LenelS2 BlueDiamond readers use Bluetooth® 4.0 to communicate to supported smart devices,
and also support a wide range of 125kHz and 13.56MHz traditional RFID credentials. OSDP, OSDP Secure Channel,
Supervised F/2F output and Wiegand communications are supported, for the widest range of access panel
compatibility.
• BlueDiamond™ mobile app provides a convenient way to access your facilities using Near Filed Communication (NFC)
or Bluetooth® technology on your mobile device. The BlueDiamond™ Mobile app and mobile credentials deliver a smart
device alternative to plastic badges, offering convenience without compromising security. Available for iOS® and
Android™, the app provides a touchless access experience, enabling building occupants to eliminate a significant
number of access touch points by turning smartphones into secure access control devices.
• BlueDiamond™ Toolkit mobile application is a convenient way for installers to commission BlueDiamond multi-
technology readers from a mobile device. Connection to the multi-technology readers is achieved by using Bluetooth®
technology from the mobile device. Installers can now update readers with Near Field Communication (NFC)
configuration. Readers can then connect to NFC-enabled phones (with BlueDiamond™ Mobile application) and send
credentials to NFC-enabled readers to access buildings and doors.
• BlueDiamond™ Software Broker API (Application programming interface) enables BlueDiamond customers to
integrate Carrier credential service on any Bluetooth hardware platform. Software Broker's scope consists of public
exported APIs and an example/reference program to explain on how to call those APIs and interface with individual
Bluetooth platform peripherals. This document covers APIs and its prototypes, and reference programs that call them.

OnGuard has been tested and found capable of running in the High Availability / Disaster Recovery (HA / DR) environments
specified below. LenelS2 has a high level of confidence that OnGuard will perform in most HA / DR environments. However,
LenelS2 does not test or certify HA / DR environments other than those listed below. Typically, for a HA solutions to be
compatible with OnGuard, there needs to be a virtual computer name that OnGuard can reference. If a non-listed HA solution
has this configuration, then it is more than likely that this solution will be compatible. LenelS2 Technical Support and
Engineering is unable to troubleshoot any HA / DR-specific problem if the solution is not on the list below. LenelS2 Technical

Support and Engineering will assist with any OnGuard specific issue as long as it is determined that the problem is not specific
to a non-tested / non-certified HA / DR solution.

The SAP Crystal Reports is a software for creating/editing the report templates used by OnGuard (purchased separately).

Crystal Reports (by SAP) 2020 (version 14.3.x) has been removed from OnGuard support as this 64-bit ONLY version has been
discovered to have issues with Report Templates that leverage OnGuard-specific (32-bit) reporting libraries. LenelS2 is
investigating what will be needed to provide support in a future OnGuard release. At this time, LenelS2 recommends
remaining on Crystal Reports 2016 (version 14.2.x). For more information on how Crystal Reports describes this library
issue, refer to SAP Knowledge Base article #2814503 at https://userapps.support.sap.com/sap/support/knowledge/en/

The Crystal Report Runtime Component (Engine) is a library that OnGuard uses to run the report templates that have been
created and loaded into OnGuard. OnGuard requires the 32-bit version of this library.
6 Credential Services Model is one-way messaging to HID Origo Portal for the purpose of issuing HID Mobile Access Credentials.
Communication from Origo to OnGuard is not supported; users of this integration who delete credentials from OnGuard
should also delete them from the HID Mobile Access portal (along with users and devices if necessary).

Credential Factory Model communicates with LenelS2 Credential Factory in the cloud, which then communicates with the
HID Origo Portal for the purpose of issuing HID Mobile Access Credentials. Credentials deactivated in OnGuard will be
deactivated in Credential Factory (HID Mobile Access Portal has no deactivation support). Credentials deleted in OnGuard will
be deleted in Credential Factory, and will be deleted in HID Mobile Access Portal. Users of this integration who delete
credentials from OnGuard should also delete them from the HID Mobile Access portal (along with users and devices if
necessary).
