Warm Up/ Listen and guess the


Introduction Getting started: (warm up) answer according to
the given
I give students this story and ask them to help me solving it "Juan has 4 information
packs of baseball cards. Each pack has 10 cards. He has 3 more cards in
his pocket. How many baseball cards does Juan have?" - Students say
4
After solving this problem, I will ask students how many tens do we - Students say
have? I mean how many packs which consist of 10 cards do we have? 3
- How many ones do we have in this problem? I mean how many
cards which are not in the pack ?
- How many baseball cards does Juan have? All the cards
- Then I write the number on the board 43 and explain that this
number consist of two digits and each one has its own room. A
room called 'Tens' and another called 'Ones'. - Students say
- 43

Engage:
I fold a sheet of construction paper in half to make two columns. I stick
the paper on the board and tell the students that this is house consists of
two rooms. Label right column (the ones room) and the left column
(tens room). I write the number in the house

- I make two digit-numbers using base-ten blocks. I ask students to write


the number I made.
- Show students seven rods in the tens column and five units in the ones
