PROCEDURE
GENERAL
5.1.1 The erection of structural steelwork consists of the assembly of steel components into a
frame on site or as a whole.
5.1.2 The processes shall involve lifting and placing into position, then connecting which will be
achieved through bolting or site welding without any handling damage and deterioration.
5.1.3 Delivery of structural steel shall be in the order needed for erection.
5.1.4 Before commencement of any structural erection, CTO documents to be obtained.
5.1.5 Sufficient and suitable lifting tools and gears shall be in place before starting the work.
5.1.6 PTW shall be obtained especially for lifting works.
5.1.7 Sufficient number of qualified lifting personnel shall be ready at site before commencing
the work and equipped with minimum and suitable PPE.
5.1.8 Before lifting operation start, it is important to make sure sufficient tightening tools are in
place.
5.1.9 Ensure all anchor bolts on which steel structure to be fixed are clean and not re-used.
5.1.10 All top nuts and washers of all anchor bolts must be removed.
5.1.11 Bottom nuts and washers of all anchor bolts to be adjusted to required level.
5.1.12 The centerlines will be checked before erection.
5.1.13 If the structure comes in parts, it is important to make first piece fixed in correct position
with adequate verticality and firmly tightened with anchor bolts top nuts and washers to
snug-tight condition and firm sufficient bracing.
5.1.14 The above shall be repeated for subsequent similar and most bottom pieces.
5.1.15 After completing bottom parts, other connection members shall be tack welded / bolted.
5.1.16 Properly braced Scaffolding should be prepared for workers to perform rafter-rafter, rafter-
column connection.
5.1.17 Any bolt hole if required shall be drilled by drilling machine. Use of oxyacetylene is
prohibited.
5.1.18 Overall dimension of the whole structure shall be checked before final welding/bolting, so
that any adjustment shall be considered if required.
5.1.19 If all dimensions are ensured, all welding to be completed and all bolts shall be firmly
tightened using calibrated torque wrench.
5.1.20 Grouting of the base will be carried out after erection is complete and accepted by CLIENT.
6
SEQUENCE OF ERECTION
5.2.4 Bolting-up:
• Which means completing all bolted / welded connections to secure and rigidity of
the frame.
• Bolt tightening shall be performed after alignment and levelling checked by the
CLIENT's Engineer.
• Bolt shall be tightened up to tension values as specified in Doc #
00250600BASG10016 using calibrated torque wrenches or Turn-of-nut pre-
tensioning method.
• All tightened bolts shall be marked for identification purpose.
• Field weld shall not be used unless shown on approved drawings.
• Crane is only released when all connection bolts were tighten, temporary bracings,
bracing purlins flange braces were installed adequately.

PROTECTION & STORAGE MATERIALS AT SITE
With purpose of preventing and protecting material damages during storage out of environment
factors such as storm water, dust, etc which cause rusty, stain, etc. Including below tasks:
- The materials or component or member shall be stored separately, above ground on timber dun age.
- They shall not be stacked directly on top of each other but must be separated by timber and shall not
stack in contact with other steel member but must be separated by a minimum 250mm gap.
- The materials shall be kept free from dirt, grease, and other foreign materials and shall be protected
from road splash.
- All bolts, nuts, washers, screws, small plates and articles generally shall be suitably packed and
delivered in rigid, waterproof containers and stored in dry condition. Threads on all threaded
components shall be protected by adequate protection.
QUALITY CONTROL
6.1 Engineer in charge shall ensure all relevant staff is briefed on the requirements of this Work
Instruction and its attachments.
6.2 The Site Engineer shall ensure that adequate equipment being used on the erection works.
6.3 Site Engineer shall keep records for all the sequences of the erection work.
6.4 Mill Certificates of all material certify conformance to specification shall be submitted by CLIENT.
6.5 Non-Destructive Test shall be carried out as per CLIENT requirement.
6.6 Method, location and frequency of testing as well as the acceptance criteria shall be as per the
relevant Field Quality Plan.
