CLASS-XII
Physics
Roll No ……… Name:……………………….
Time allowed: 1 hr Maximum Marks: 20
General Instructions: -
1. Attempt all questions.
2. Marks are indicated against the question.

1. The P.E. of an electric dipole is maximum when it makes an angle θ with 1

electric field. The value of θ is :
(a) π2 (b) π (c) zero (d) 3π/2
2. Choose the vector physical quantity: 1
(a) Electric flux (b) Electric potential
(c) Electric potential energy (d) Electric intensity
3. When air is replaced by a dielectric medium of constant K, the maximum 1
force of attraction between two charges separated by a distance
(a) increases K times (b) remains unchanged
(c) decreases K times (d) increases K-1 times
4. Consider a uniform electric field in the z-direction. The potential is a 1
constant
(a) for any x for a given z (b) for any y for a given z
(c) on the x-y plane for a given z (d) all of these
5. A point charge Q is placed at point O as shown in the figure. Is the 1
potential difference VA – VB positive, negative or zero, if Q is
(i) positive (ii) negative?

6. A hollow metal sphere of radius 5 cm is charged such that the potential on 1

its surface is 10 V. What is the potential at the centre of the sphere?
7. Calculate the potential difference on capacitor C2 in the circuit shown. 2
Given potential at A is 90 V, C1=20μF, C2=30μF and C3=15μF.

8. Two identical parallel plate (air) capacitors C1 and C2 have capacitance C 2

each. The space between their plates is now filled with dielectrics as shown
in the figure. If the two capacitors still have the same capacitance, then
obtain the relation between dielectric constants K, K1and K2.

9. Two point charges qA = 3 mC and qB = –3 mC are located 20 cm apart in 2

vacuum. (a) What is the electric field at the midpoint O of the line AB
joining the two charges? (b) If a negative test charge of magnitude 1.5 ×
10–9 C is placed at this point, what is the force experienced by the test
charge?
10. Define an equipotential surface. 2
(i) Draw equipotential surfaces in case of a single point charge.
(ii) What is the amount of work done in moving a point charge
around a circular arc of radius r at the centre of which another
point charge is located?
11. Two large, thin metal plates are parallel and close to each other. On their 3
inner faces, the plates have surface charge densities of opposite signs and
of magnitude 17.0 × 10–22 C/m2 . What is Electric field: (a) in the outer
region of the first plate, (b) in the outer region of the second plate, and (c)
between the plates?
12. Derive the expression for the electric potential at any point along the axial 3
line of an electric dipole.
