Safari Comprehension

Mom, Dad, Gogo, Bongi, and I are on a trip for a fortnight. Lots of animals roam the land. We might
have to stay in our car, but there are lots of sights for us to see. The sun is high in the sky, so the day
is very bright. We drive right down to the river; there is a lioness and her cub. She licks her cub to
clean him. It is so cute to see how the sunlight makes their coats shine like gold.

The tall giraffes reach up high to munch the bright green leaves at the top of the trees. They look as if
they have light and shade. Suddenly, we catch sight of zebras running in fright.

“I’m sure that they don’t want to pick a fight with the lions,” says Gogo. “Why not?” asks Bongi. “I
would rather run away too instead of being a lion’s lunch,” laughs Dad. “The day has gone by so
quickly!” sighs Mom. “It will soon be night; the light is fading.” “Can we see if there are any animals
that come out at night?” I ask.

we will need to hold on tight to our flashlights and only use them if we need light to see. We don’t
want to give the animals a fright with the bright light. “It’s almost midnight,” sighs Mom. “I really think
that we need to get back to the camp and go to bed.” “What was your favourite part of the day?” asks
Gogo. “It was the flight of the zebra,” says Bongi. “They ran so fast when they caught sight of the
lion!”
