MATH 1730-01 (INTEGRAL CALCULUS)

Summer 2024

Math and Stats Learning Centre: Room 3125 Erie Hall. Free help from TAs will be
available Monday to Friday 10:00am – 5:00pm (hours may be different in the summer term).
No appointments are needed.

Textbook: "Single Variable Calculus, Early Transcendentals" 9E, James Stewart

Content: The Definite Integral and Fundamental Theorem, Techniques of


Integration, Improper Integrals, Applications of Integration, Infinite
Sequences and Series, Tests for Convergence, Power Series.
(Chapters 5, 6, 7, 8 & 11.)

Calculators: Only non-programmable, non-graphing calculators are allowed for


the final examination.

Assignments: Practice problems will be assigned in parallel with lectures. Assignment


problems will not be graded. However, doing the assigned problems is the practice needed to
pass this course.

Grade Determination:

There will be 6 quizzes and 2 tests throughout the semester, administered in Mobius through
Brightspace.

Quiz 1: Sunday, May 19 at 6pm – Sunday, May 26 at 6pm (online in Mobius)


Quiz 2: Sunday, May 26 at 6pm – Sunday, June 2 at 6pm (online in Mobius)
Quiz 3: Sunday, June 2 at 6pm – Sunday, June 9 at 6pm (online in Mobius)
Test 1: Thursday, June 27, 2:30pm–3:50pm, available 2:00pm–5:00pm online in Mobius
Quiz 4: Sunday, June 30 at 6pm – Sunday, July 7 at 6pm
Quiz 5: Sunday, July 7 at 6pm – Sunday, July 14 at 6pm
Quiz 6: Sunday, July 14 at 6pm – Sunday, July 21 at 6pm
Test 2: Thursday, July 25, 2:30pm–3:50pm, available 2:00pm–5:00pm online in Mobius

A student license for Mobius will be needed (for a year and covers all math courses taken in
that year). Quizzes will be made available on Sundays at 6pm and will need to be completed
by 6pm the following Sunday. You will be asked to pay the first time you access Mobius
through Brightspace. More details about Mobius will be posted on Brightspace before the date
of the first quiz. You must access Mobius through the link on Brightspace for each quiz/test so
that your grades in Mobius can be sent to Brightspace automatically.

Evaluation: The final grade is calculated as follows:

Quizzes (online in Mobius): 18%


Test 1: Thursday, June 27, 2:30pm–3:50pm (online in Mobius) 16%
Test 2: Thursday, July 25, 2:30pm–3:50pm, (online in Mobius) 16%
Final Examination: Date and time to be announced later, (in-person) 50%

No Make-up Quizzes/Tests will be given under ANY circumstances. A test missed


with a legitimate reason (written evidence must be provided) will have its weight
transferred to the final exam.

Important Academic Dates:

May 6, 2024 First Day of Summer 2024 Classes

May 19, 2024 Academic Add/Drop date - Last day for late registration and change of courses
May 20, 2024 Victoria Day: University Closed
June 3, 2024 Financial Drop Date. Full tuition refund drop date for 12-week courses. Any
courses dropped after this date will be charged 100% of the base tuition charges
(0% refund). It is also the final date to Opt-out of incidental charges. After this date
incidental charges cannot be reversed.
June 15, 2024 Expected date for the announcement of the final examination schedule. It is your
responsibility to be available for the final examinations. Do not make travel plans
to leave Windsor until you have seen your final exam schedule. (Senate Bylaw 54)
June 17-21, 2024 Reading Week
June 30, 2024 Deadline to apply for an alternative exam date for (1) students unable to write
during the regularly scheduled time slot due to a conflict arising from a religious
observance and (2) students having three or more final examinations scheduled in
consecutive time slots over a 24-hour period or three or more final examinations
scheduled in one calendar day (See the first link on the last page for the form.)

Prevention Office can provide this information and assist with the process.

Student Perceptions of Teaching (formerly Student Evaluation of Teaching (SET)): The Student
Perceptions of Teaching forms will be administered in the last two weeks of classes for courses 12-24
weeks in duration, in the last week of classes for courses 6-11 weeks in duration, or in the last two days
of classes for courses of 5 or fewer weeks in duration. Students will be provided with up to 15 minutes
at the beginning of a class to complete the SPTs online. The SPTs for distance education courses will
be completed online. The SPT Schedule is posted under the timetables as “SETs” and instructions on
accessing and completing the online SPT can be found here. If you encounter a technical issue
completing a SPT through UWinsite Student, please submit a ticket here.

Academic Integrity: The University of Windsor’s Student Code of Conduct (Academic Integrity) will
be enforced. Violations will be dealt with according to Senate Bylaw 31. Our practice is to seek the
maximum penalty for academic misconduct.

Illness Reporting/Medical Certificate: Any illness that will prevent you from completing an
assignment on time or taking an exam should be reported through UWinsite Student. Select “how to
self-report an illness” for information on submitting an illness. Any decisions regarding
accommodations and verification of illness or injury medical note for a missed test, assignment or exam
rest with the professor. If requested, complete and submit the Verification of Student Illness or Injury
form to your course instructor.

Accommodation: Students seeking academic accommodation for an ongoing, diagnosed disability


(whether permanent or temporary) must begin the process by completing the Student Accessibility
Services Online Intake form. Once this is done, you will be contacted to arrange a meeting with an
Advisor. Visit the Student Accessibility Services website for a full range of programs and services
available. Student Accommodation is governed by the Policy on Academic Accommodation for
Students with Disabilities.
Student Success and Leadership Centre: The Student Success and Leadership Centre offers free pre-
recorded tutorials through the Skills to Enhance Personal Success (STEPS) program to develop study
skills to achieve academic success in a university setting. The Central Academic Advising Centre and
the Academic Writing Centre have teams to assist with your studies at the University of Windsor.
Grading Scale: The University of Windsor uses a percentage marking and grading scale. Course
instructors are to assign and record integer-valued grades, and these grades are to be considered the
exact assigned grades earned by the students.

Course Modalities: Information on the course modality being offered for each course for the
upcoming semester, and the associated expectations of the course modality, will be made available
through UWinsite during registration.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI): The Faculty of Science Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)
