CHAPTER 6
Revising the Articles of the
Confederation
55 delegates attended to the Constitutional
Convention. 41 of them, fought in the Independence
war and they were wealthy, educated men and slave
owners.
● The Convention was in Philadelphia on May
25th 1787.
● Washington was elected president of the
Convention.
● Benjamin Franklin, age 81, believed in a strong
Government.
● James Madison, Alexander Hamilton also
thought in a strong Government
● .Patrick Henry defended the Articles and the
power of the states.
THE DEBATE
The Constitutional Convention of May 25th, 1787
The reunion was meant to revise the articles of the
confederation, but some delegates had a different Idea.

them and vote to elect the president
and vice president.
● Inauguration is the official ceremony held to make
someone president officially.

Washington created the Cabinet ( a group of advisors


who help the president).
● Thomas Jefferson: The secretary of the state
Relations with other states and countries.
● Alexander Hamilton: Secretary of the Treasury ( the
economy)
● Henry Knox : Secretary of War
● Edmond Randolph : Attorney General ( help with
legal issues)

1794, Washington signed:
● The Judiciary Act, creating the Attorney General position
and the Supreme Court with 6 members.
● He created the United States Navy (6 ships)

● During his time, Washington, created the first Copyright


Law.
● He governed for two periods.
● 1796 two political parties were born ( the Federalists and
the Democratic-republicans.
● Hamilton the president of the Federalists and Thomas
Jefferson the president of the democratic-republicans
