 About the Institute
The National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) is a public trust established in 2006 by the Securities and
Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the regulator of the securities markets in India. The institute carries out a
wide range of capacity building activities at various levels aimed at enhancing the quality standards in
securities markets.

NISM sprawling 72-acre campus with a serene environment and state-of-the-art infrastructure at
Patalganga (near Mumbai-Pune Expressway) was inaugurated by Shri Narendra Modi, incumbent Prime
Minister of India, on December 24, 2016. This scenic campus offers full-time residential academic
programmes for postgraduate students, short-term training programmes and faculty development
programmes for market participants.

NISM has embarked on a fast-track expansion of its activities, both domestically and internationally, which
will position the institute as a leading global player in knowledge dissemination and skills enhancement in
the financial market's domain.

The campus boasts of state-of-the-art design, finance library, IT infrastructure, well-equipped classrooms,
seminar hall, conference hall, etc. It also has an amphitheatre, ultra-modern auditorium and multipurpose
hall, recreation facilities for various activities. The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled.

NISM has been carrying out a wide range of capacity building activities aimed at enhancing quality standards
in the securities markets and for increasing participation therein, addressing various stakeholders of
securities markets, keeping in view its purpose, as mentioned below:

“To develop NISM as a premier Institution recognized globally, for capacity building in the securities market

Certificate Program in Basic Data Science, a six-month online course that integrates elements from securities
markets, statistics, and machine learning/artificial intelligence.

This program is tailored to equip participants with the tools and techniques necessary for understanding intricate data
patterns and translating data into actionable insights for decision-making in securities markets. Embracing a
modern, learner-centric approach, it is delivered by seasoned faculty members alongside industry experts.

 About Certificate Programme
in Data Science (Basic)
Data has emerged as a new functional requirement in modern-age decision making. Every organization use data as a
key input to arrive at any decision-making pertaining to their products and services. CPDS (Basic) offered by the
National Institute of Securities Markets, will enable you to collect and manage data responsibly and ultimately use it to
make informed decisions. The program is an interdisciplinary field of study that incorporates basic understanding of
finance and securities markets. During your study, you may work in teams or independently to analyse financial/
securities markets data using the learnings of the data science tools and techniques.

For Whom?
This program is designed for students who want to begin or advance their careers in data science in the securities
markets domain. It is also ideal for the securities markets professionals who want to learn using data optimally to
make their decisions more efficient, consumer-centric and cost effective.

The Basic level program is designed for those with a limited technical background (some coding experience and
familiarity with basic statistics) or those with no prior experience.

This Program is best for the students who are looking to switch careers, gain hands-on experience working with
real-world datasets, and build a job-ready data science portfolio in securities Markets.

 Why NISM?
The Certificate Programme in Data Science (Basic) provides an
opportunity to study in a pedigreed institute, under a team of top academicians
and practitioners, in a world-class infrastructure.

Over the years, the National Institute of Securities Markets has carved a
niche for itself in capacity building. Since 2009, it has conducted various
niche programmes of durations ranging between 1 month to 2 years, with
more than 2000 alumni rendering their services in professionalizing the
markets. NISM has also fulfilled its mandates through training programmes
for the Ministry of External Affairs, for officers from IRS, IAS, ICLS, CAG,
SEBI, RBI, IFSCA, etc. The Institute's training programmes have also
benefitted regulatory staff members from SAARC nations and the CLMV
(Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam) nations. Customized corporate
training programmes also feature regularly as part of its ongoing activities.

With this rich experience in education and research over a decade, the
programme has been carefully crafted to impart the complete set of
knowledge and skills in vital and emerging application areas, benchmarked
with the best in India and overseas.

NISM's Library has a collection of around 9,000 books, apart from various
periodicals. It has one of the richest collections in the country in Economics,
Finance, Securities Markets and Compliance. Subscription to electronic
journals through EBSCO is also available, for accessing scientific journals.

NISM also hosts an extensive securities market data and participants may
get an opportunity to work on this data and make new products for
securities markets. In industry interaction sessions held at NISM, the
participants get an opportunity to interact with esteemed officers of SEBI,
Market Infrastructure Institutions (MIIs), market intermediaries and
industry experts in finance and analytics.

Programme Assessment
and Schedule
The performance of participants is assessed on continuous evaluation. Evaluation is through quizzes, submissions,
projects, etc., as may be indicated by the faculty members. At the end of the Basic Level of the programme,
participants will be awarded with Grades and certificate of completion.

The programme will take place in Online Mode. The class timings would be as follows:

Eligibility Criteria
• 12th standard with minimum 50% marks (Maths as a subject) from any recognized board.
OR
• Graduation with 50% marks for recognised University/ Institute.

• Candidates will be selected based on an online screening test. Information related to screening test is available in
FAQs.

How to apply?
Candidates willing to apply should first register themselves on https://apply.nism.ac.in/cpds

Step 1: New Registration: Upon successful registration, a User-ID and Password will be sent to registered email ID
and mobile number of the candidate.

Step 2: Application process: Candidates are required to log-in and complete the application process by paying
application fee. After making the payment of application fee of Rs. 500/- the candidates may submit their application.
*Application fee is exclusive of Payment Gateway charges & Processing fee as applicable.

The consolidated programme fee for Certificate Program in Data Science (Basic) is Rs. 49,200/- (Rupees
Forty-Nine Thousand and two hundred only). The break-up of the fees is as follows:
