IMPACT OF FLIMS ON YOUTH

Sri Ranjani R (Participant 1): I think one of the biggest changes in cinemas
recently is the shift towards streaming platforms. It seems like more people are
choosing to stay home rather than going out to watch movies.

Abishek I (Participant 2): That's true. Streaming services offer convenience,

but I still love the experience of watching a movie on the big screen. I think
cinemas need to find a way to compete with that convenience factor.

Akash P (Participant 3): Some cinemas are already stepping up their game by
offering luxury experiences with reclining seats, gourmet food, and even
alcohol service. It's a different experience altogether.

Anusuiya S (Participant 4): I've noticed that too. But I wonder if these luxury
experiences are affordable for everyone. Ticket prices seem to keep going up,
and it can get pretty expensive to go to the movies regularly.

Arsath Nihal J (Participant 5): Yeah, affordability is definitely an issue. But

I've also seen some cinemas experimenting with different pricing models, like
discounted tickets on certain days or for specific times. It's a way to attract more
people, especially during weekdays.

Balamurugan C (Participant 6): What about technology? I've heard about

cinemas using virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) to enhance the
movie-watching experience. Has anyone tried that?

Bharath T (Participant 7): I haven't tried it myself, but it sounds intriguing. I

think technology could be a game-changer for cinemas if they can integrate it
well into the experience without it becoming gimmicky.

Boomika Sri AB (Participant 8): Another thing to consider is sustainability.

With the growing awareness of environmental issues, cinemas could attract
more customers by adopting eco-friendly practices, like reducing plastic waste
or using renewable energy.

Chittrarasu S (Participant 9): That's a great point. I think consumers are

becoming more conscious of where they spend their money and how businesses
impact the environment. Cinemas that prioritize sustainability could gain a
competitive edge.

26
Sri Ranjani R (Participant 10): What about the impact of the COVID-19
pandemic? It really changed the way we think about public spaces like cinemas.
How have cinemas adapted, and what do you think the future holds?

Abishek I (Participant 1): The pandemic forced cinemas to close for a while,
and even after reopening, they had to implement strict hygiene measures and
reduce seating capacity. Some cinemas also started offering online ticketing and
contactless payment options to minimize physical contact.

Akash P (Participant 2): I think the pandemic accelerated trends that were
already happening, like the shift towards online viewing. But I'm optimistic that
people will still want to come back to cinemas for the communal experience of
watching movies together.

Conclusion (Akash P) ;

In summary, the film industry and cinemas have undergone significant

transformations, particularly with the rise of streaming platforms and the impact
of the COVID-19 pandemic. While streaming offers unparalleled convenience,
the allure of the big screen remains strong for many movie enthusiasts. Cinemas
are evolving by providing luxury experiences, incorporating advanced
technologies like VR and AR, and experimenting with flexible pricing to
enhance affordability. Additionally, sustainability initiatives are becoming
increasingly important, aligning with the growing consumer consciousness
regarding environmental impact. Ultimately, the communal experience and
unique offerings of cinemas are likely to keep them relevant, even as they adapt
to these new challenges and opportunities.

on the article “Reliance Industries Expands Retail Footprint with New
Acquisitions” from ‘Business Today’, dated June 15, 2024. This article

the retail sector.

Reliance Industries has significantly increased its presence in the retail market
through strategic acquisitions, according to a recent disclosure to stock

During the period from April 2023 to March 2024, Reliance Retail Ventures
Limited (RRVL) acquired substantial stakes in several prominent retail chains
across the country. Key acquisitions include:

RRVL acquired 0.55% (23,40,000 equity shares) of a leading fashion retail

promoter group, or persons acting in concert stood at 68.50%. Following the
recent transactions, this stake has increased by 2.65%, bringing the total to

EX NO: 14 READING COMPREHENSION
DATE: 22.05.2024
I. Read the following passage and answer the questions given below it in the context of
the passage.

The Great Barrier Reef, located off the coast of Queensland, Australia, is the world's largest
coral reef system. It stretches over 2,300 kilometers and is composed of over 2,900 individual
reefs and 900 islands. This natural wonder is home to a vast diversity of marine life,
including 1,500 species of fish, 400 types of coral, and countless other organisms.

Despite its beauty and ecological importance, the Great Barrier Reef faces numerous threats.
One of the most significant is coral bleaching, caused by rising sea temperatures. When
corals are stressed by high temperatures, they expel the algae living in their tissues, causing
them to turn white or "bleach." While corals can recover from mild bleaching events, severe
or prolonged bleaching can lead to coral death and the subsequent decline of reef ecosystems.

Human activities also pose a threat to the reef. Pollution from agriculture, coastal
development, and shipping can introduce sediment, nutrients, and chemicals into reef waters,
impacting water quality and coral health. Overfishing and destructive fishing practices further
degrade reef habitats, disrupting ecological balances and reducing fish populations.

Efforts are underway to protect and conserve the Great Barrier Reef. Conservation
organizations, governments, and local communities are working together to establish marine
protected areas, regulate fishing practices, and reduce pollution. Scientific research plays a
crucial role in monitoring reef health, studying climate impacts, and developing strategies for
reef resilience in the face of ongoing environmental challenges.
