D. New Lesson
1. Motivation
Class, do you want to listen to a conversation?

This conversation is between Vicky and her mother and their plans for their
family picnic.

Are you ready?

Mother: Vicky, please help me prepare the things we will bring to the picnic.
Vicky: Of course, Mother! What will I do?
Mother: Put some spoons and forks and two knives in that basket. Make sure
to put plates and table napkins, too.
Vicky: Should I also put some glasses, Mother?
Mother: Yes, please. There are loaves of bread on the table. Please put them
in the basket, too. I’ll put the biscuits and strawberries in another basket.
Vicky: Could we bring some candies, Mother? I am sure Susie and Tom will
like them.
Mother: Not too many, Vicky. Kids should eat fruits more than candies.
Vicky: Okay, Mother. Everything is ready for the picnic!

Comprehension Check:
1. Who are the characters mentioned earlier?
2. What were they preparing for?
3. What are the things that Vicky and Mother prepared for the picnic?

2. Presentation of the Lesson

Let us now check the things that Vicky and Mother prepared. Study this chart.

A B

Singular Noun Plural Noun Singular Noun Plural Noun

spoon spoons knife knives

plate plates strawberry strawberries

fork forks candy candies

How do the nouns in Group A form their plural forms?

How about the nouns in Group B, how do they form their plural forms?

Class, based from the activities we just had earlier, our lesson for today is all
about using plural forms of regular nouns ending in -f/-fe and -y.

3. Development of the Lesson

Going back to the chart earlier, let us focus on Group B.

How do we change each noun into its plural form?

In the word knife, what do we do with the letters f/fe before adding -es?

How about for the word strawberry, what do we do with the letter y before adding
-es?
Here are some more rules that we need to remember when forming the plural
forms of regular nouns.

 Nouns that end in -f/-fe form their plural by changing f/fe to v before adding
-es.
Examples: The leaves of the plants are green.
leaf – leaves life – lives elf-elves
wife – wives hoof – hooves

 Nouns that end in -y with a consonant before it form their plural by

changing y to i before adding -es.
Examples: I bought some candies earlier.
candy – candies sky – skies
berry – berries

 Only add -s to nouns ending in -y with a vowel before it.

Examples: The boys went out for a walk.
boy – boys key – keys
tray – trays toy – toys

4. Application

So for today, we will be having a group activity. The class will be divided into
3 groups. Each group will be given their own materials for the activity.

But before we start our activity formally, what are the different rules or
standards that we must follow when doing a group activity?

Now, for the directions.

Group 1:
Directions: Write a sentence using the plural words in your material. Write the
answer in your sheets.

Group 2:
Directions: Arrange the jumbled letters and paste the words properly in your
sheets.

Group 3:
Directions: Complete the puzzle and name each picture afterwards. Do not
forget to write the plural form of the thing being shown in the pictures.

Are you ready? You may start your group activity now!
